So, expect more of this with global warming. It will happen to “red” states first and hardest, so liberals are sure to be blamed.

No, they’ll deny it even if they do so while standing in an island where Miami used to be

Trump’s wall idea is going to backfire on his constituency when northern libtards silently roll with the idea and build it along I-70 with the purpose of keeping out climate refugees from Texas, Louisiana, Florida, etc.

I mean... they don’t really share our values, they bring crime, weird religion, can’t speak english properly and are generally incompatible with civilization.

Who will be the first brave politician to own up to the facts that large sections of Louisiana are the first clear loss to climate change..? (and not to rebuild)

This is weather not climate. And it’s not being caused by climate change. It’s a low pressure system that is being blocked from moving by a high pressure system/ridge to the north and east. So it’s just sitting there unable to move while being able to sustain itself by drawing moisture from the gulf.

People rescued from cars in floods are some of the world’s least sympathetic victims. I’d never advocate they be removed from the gene pool, but they should make full restitution for the cost of their rescue, they should be required to do 500 hours of community service, and they should have their drivers licenses suspended for year .

Have you ever been in a flash flood? Things go from “bad” to “nightmare” in minutes. Add to that the fact that this storm has brought flooding to areas that have never suffered this kind of flooding before, a forecast that didn’t predict this amount of rain, and a population with a number of people who fled Katrina... It's a recipe for disaster. Please have some empathy for these folks.

Wow it only took 7000 rescues before Gawker thought this story was worth mentioning. Priorities people.

The only reason Gawker mentioned it all is because they had a video worth reposting.

Pretty sure I saw it posted when the flooding started, and also when 1,000 people were mentioned. 1,000 being a smaller number than 7,000.

But why look through previous pages of content when you can just comment on the post right in front of you?

The thing that’s kind of weird about the video with the red Miata is that it is the easiest thing in the world to open the convertible top on one of those things, easier than unfastening your seatbelt. You pop two latches and you can push the top open with one finger. I suppose the woman with the dog was in a panic, and who can blame her, but if my Miata went into the water right-side up it’s the first thing I’d think of.

That was my thought, too. That roof-latch mechanism is a perfect example of Mazda KISS (keep it simple, stupid) engineering at its finest.

*shrug* maybe it was a borrowed car? Or just the whole panic of it all..

gosh, if only policy makers and political leaders had been provided reports and studies predicting these extreme weather events due to climate change.... so they could have been implementing policies to address the eventual fallout.

(it’s been 140+ in some parts of the middle east...)

this is historic flooding not the first 2-3 feet past flood stages, this is 5-15 feet over flood stages of the minor rivers in the area. THis is floding in places that only normaly only in flood zones in name only

More than 1,200 soldiers have landed in Louisiana to assist with the rescue effort since the National Guard was called in.

haha yeah like that’s going to help. the federal government, all government, is the enemy! Louisiana doesnt need no tax-enforcing government to tell them how to not die. bootstraps! just let the wealthy save them

Because the wealthy will always come through with charity for the deserving. Much like they do for college tuition. Just ask the Koch’s.
