Let me get the story straight. The President, who is an African muslim who hates muslims started all of our wars with muslims so that he could found a muslim terrorist group in the Middle-East so he could pass a healthcare bill. Is that right?

and he convinced us that he wasn’t a muslim by extending an olive branch to the LGBT community.

com’on CNN, at least attempt to re-earn some of our lost trust by asking every trump spokesperson the follow-up: “...and you’re not being ‘sarcastic’ about that statement? you’re actually really serious? really really??”

Really? I didn’t realize Barack Obama was president on Oct 7, 2001, because THAT was the day the President B-U-S-H announced we’d be engaging in military action in Afghanistan.

Here’s a link to the speech BUSH gave:

    https://www.c-span.org/video/?c435713…

On this day in 2001, less than a month after al-Qaida terrorists flew commercial jets into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, President George W. Bush announces that American troops are on the offensive in Afghanistan. The goal of Operation Enduring Freedom, as the mission was dubbed, was to stamp out Afghanistan’s Islamic fundamentalist Taliban regime, which had aided and abetted al-Qaida and its leader, Osama bin Laden, a Saudi national who lived in the Afghan hills and urged his followers to kill Americans.

In a televised address that evening, Bush informed the American public that “carefully targeted actions” were being carried out to crush the military capability of al-Qaida and the Taliban, with help from British, Canadian, Australian, German and French troops. An additional 40 nations around the world provided intelligence, as well as bases from which the operations were conducted.

Bush touted the multinational effort as proof that America, in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, was “supported by the collective will of the world.” He also warned that the war in Afghanistan would likely be only the first front in a long struggle against terrorism. He vowed to continue to take what he called the “war on terror” to those countries that sponsored, harbored or trained terrorists.

I don’t know why it is so hard for you people to understand. Everything bad that has happened in the last 20 years = Obama’s fault. Everything before that = Bill Clinton’s fault. Anything good that happened in that time was thanks to Bush and/or the Republican-controlled Congress, as applicable.

I would have liked to see the rest of this clip shown here. I think it is incumbent upon Gawker, especially since Jon Stewart has retired, to actually show Trump and his spokespeople engaging in the Big Lie, and to actually show the reporters failing to follow up on them saying these untrue things. It seems obvious to us, but I promise you that it is not obvious to most people that these folks are totally misrepresenting the truth. It is critical to actual journalists, and actual journalism, both of which I believe exist at Gawker, to make these things very plain at all times. If there’s more to this clip, we need to see it. If there is no more, that needs to be shown and explained.

I know we think everybody understands that these things are false, but we are getting to the point in political discourse that every time these people lie, it needs to be called out explicitly.

      Preach, Poodle!

Is it surreal that in our modern American corporatocracy, the critical Fourth Estate duties of skepticism basically fell to a former MTV VJ to execute?

I think we should outsource our media duties to the BBC. Can we get some salty Brits over here to do the adult work?

Now, that is a good idea! We would have to get them some kick-ass health insurance, to replace the National Health, but other then that, I bet we could find some willing people.

And it’s incredibly sad that, now that Jon Stewart is gone, no one is doing this.

Chasing after all of those stupid, useless Kardashians can’t actually be taking ALL of their time.... There’s got to be someone free to attend to this stuff... But, apparently not.

She’ll be his press secretary if he steals the election. Just imagine the glee in which she’ll deliver lines like, “with a heavy heart the president ordered the Blackwater troops to napalm the Kenyan Catholic school. Yes, the 300 children were hostages of a single terrorist, but the president didn’t think it was right to risk Blackwater lives for NON-Americans. So... the children went to be with God, so we should all be... happy and proud that the president made the honorable choice.”

I don’t get why news anchors and networks don’t interrupt the speaker and say (in this case), “Katrina, what you’re saying is simply not true. It is common knowledge that the war in Afghanistan began in 2002 under the watch of President Bush. That premise is inarguable, and myself and CNN are simply not going to allow you to come on our air and speak blatant lies. Please stick to facts and policy issues or we will end this interview.”

The Trump campaign would ultimately comply because it cannot afford to not have its message heard on networks other than Fox News. The polling shows they have an enormous task in front of them in trying to claim swing states, some of which currently have a better chance of switching from red to blue rather than blue to red. They simply cannot win without convincing more prospective voters to vote Trump/Pence, and anything they spew on Fox News is preaching to the choir. CNN, MSNBC and the Sunday morning shows are where the potential converts are, and those networks have to do a better job of real-time fact checking some of these absurd statements and holding the feet of Pierson et al to the fire.

At this point the media has a lot more power over the Trump campaign than vise versa. Trump is not spending a cent on advertising and is relying wholly on earned media to keep himself in the news. The TV networks also probably aren’t earning nearly as much from political advertising this year than previous presidential campaigns because one side isn’t buying much.

It would be great if the media stopped acting like it’s Trump that has them over a barrel by allowing his campaign to state ridiculous lies without challenge.

the anchor actually did do that this time, somebody posted it in one of the above threads. He basically said that we went in to war in 2001 under Bush and she ran her mouth about how suddenly ISIS is related to afghanistan. He then explained the evolution of ISIS and how that happened long before Obama was president. She said that somehow this is now Hillary’s fault because of Libya and Al Queda. He then just gave up.

They did the same thing with Scottie Nelle Hughes from the Tea Party News this morning when she came on.

Honestly, I just don’t understand journalists who tolerate this. Sure, you’re not supposed to show bias but correcting someone who is flat out lying about something is not bias. In fact, one could say that by not challenging and correcting it you are being biased.

Millions of people will see the interview and I’m sure not all of them will go Google that topic, and, why should they have to? Would we have asked people 20 years ago to go look up newspaper archives to verify the statements on a news show?

You took up their time, do your job.

So many of these “journalists” are just talking suits. It’s a real skill to be able to think quickly on your feet, I think Rachel Maddow is one of the best examples I can think of of someone who comports themselves superbly on the fly in debates.

Honest question, apart from being a lifelong employee of Trump or a Fox News talking head, what kind of job expectation can someone like her reasonably have post-election? I realize the career trajectories of many conservatives defy the laws of logic and gravity à la Sarah Palin, but she is so painfully stupid and un-telegenic who would actually hire her to do this type of work?

She could probably land a job with a place like CNN or, if they don’t want to keep her on after the election, a job with The Trump Organization (hopefully she gets paid in cash and in advance; I would not take a check from the Donald).

She might be hopelessly clueless, but she's only slightly more so than Bill Kristol, a man who has perfected the idea of the clueless statement.
