So this is what he is going to make the new normal between now and November. He’ll say the most outrageous things imaginable- unimaginable even- double and triple down on them in multiple media outlets for one or two days until everyone is livid, then just claim it was all a joke and move on to the next comment that’s totally serious until people don’t like it and then it’s not serious.

I’m not even worried about this election anymore. I’m worried about the next one.

“I’m not even worried about this election anymore. I’m worried about the next one.”

Yup, Trump is just the tiny warning label on the 100 pound bag of shit known as the American electorate.

I’m not worried about the election, I’m worried about what happens when he refuses to read a concession speech. All he’d need to do is drop the signature, “A lot of people are questioning these results!” type line and his most rabid, violent supporters will get what he’s saying.

His people have already been talking up how there’d be backlash. Granted, most people will just bitch on infowars or whatever other alt red website they go to, but there will be some people who take the next step. There is already an incredible amount of domestic anti-gubmit activity out there, imagine it with MORE anger. It would make the anti-government incidents of Bill’s term seem like child’s play.

the candidate’s own rhetoric—not just the words he says, but how he says them—is more akin to a stand-up comic or late-night host: The patterns and rhythms, the punchlines and asides, the faux-familiarity.

This is really unfair to comedians and belies an understanding of how difficult their skills are. Trump has a delivery more akin to a carnival barker (“step right up folks, you are not going to believe your eyes”) or the overly aggressive owner of a family eatery; “Everyone loves our coffee. Just loves it! And al lot- a lot- of people are saying we have the best hot dogs in town- the best! Really, really tremendous, you’re going to love ‘em, I promise you that.”

It never fails to amaze how thin his skin is. I mean, Seth Meyers joking about him at the correspondent’s dinner was the perfect example- and he wasn’t even all that rough on him! President Obama, in contrast, laughed at every joke that was thrown at him (and by all accounts seem to be a pretty funny guy). I know “sense of humor” isn’t even in the Top 50 Thing Wrong With Trump- but come on, dude. You need to learn to laugh at yourself. Maybe it is just because I come from a family who all have extremely self deprecating senses of humor, but I don't understand why he can't even pretend to laugh.

I know this is cliche, but it’s true; good comedy punches up, not down. Insecure, petty misanthropes have a hard time with self-deprecation. That’s why comedy, like reality, has a liberal bias.

Absolutely. And when you are the "up" people are punching at, you laugh and take it in good humor.

His sense of humor is that of the bully or the gaslighting BS artist. As with conservative “humor” in general, it usually punches down.

As to what he feels, it’s the same thing he always feels: a pathologically insatiable desire for attention and money.

This is why conservative humor doesn’t work that well. They’ve tried it a few times on Fox and Dennis Miller keeps trying and failing.

The only conservative humor that works pretty well is that which punches up- e.g. the gluten-free, snowflake, etc. jokes and some of the more extreme elements of PC culture (not Clint Eastwood or Tea Party Uncle’s version of PC, which is not slapping girls in the ass anymore).

Dennis Miller, man. What a waste. Prior to 9/11 he actually thought for himself.

Seeing him turn into a complete shill was really sad (!).

Donald Trump probably doesn’t laugh often due to the ever-increasing stress caused by his refusal to deny that he is not only a donor, but also the founder and MVP of NAMBLA.

Explains why he sat Foley right behind him at the same event he mentioned you have to know the campaign to get those kind of seats.

I was actually going to go for the opposite. He appears super constipated in that first GIF.

A constipated blob of silly putty wearing too much makeup with a spray-painted Brillo pad atop its head, that is.

Yesterday I had a back and forth with a Trump supporter/Hillary hater who thought himself to be very educated, he then tried to explain that when Trump said Obama founded ISIS, he meant he found them. “Trump is right Obama did find ISIS”. I would have cried if I wasn’t so busy laughing.
