There is only one way to write. The Gawker way. We should cut off the hands of all other “writers.”

Ummm...don’t we already have a lot of different ways to run, though? Hurdles, steeple chase, etc. Also isn’t speed walking/race walking a sport?

      THIS ARTICLE IS BIASED.

Edit: I missed that they mentioned speed walking :(

They should find a way to add hurdles to swimming.

+1 I’ve been saying this for the last 36 years of Olympics watching. Having separate races for different kinds of swimming strokes is the same kind of absurdity as the AKC recognizing 13" and 15" beagles as different varieties of dogs when literally the only difference is their size and they can even come from the same litter — it’s padding the number of awards available.

Not to any given dog. The same amount of awards are available to the 13" beagle as there would be if you combined the categories.

I do not know how difficult it is to change strokes, so I do not know if this applies to the olympics also. But if this analogy is anything like the previous analogies i’ve encountered in my life, then it should be just as difficult to change strokes as it would be to add or remove 2" to a beagle.

At the Olympic level maybe that is so — maybe some swimmers are born to backstroke and will always lose at other types of swimming.

We like to call those worse swimmers where I’m from. That’s like arguing I’m the fastest man alive because I can one foot hop faster than everyone else. Sure that’s a “skill” that I’m better at than anyone else over 100M, but pretending that’s a useful skill is stupid.

    Serious question alex and HamNo...

What about weight classes for boxing and other combat sports? I assume this take would also require you to write a take that only the heavyweight division matters? If not, why not?

I wonder why only certain sports have weight classes. Why do we care which <56 kg man can lift the most weight, but not which <56 kg can put the shot the furthest? Or the fastest >100 kg marathon or the best post-menarche gymnast?

In fact, the Olympics already have walking races, and people universally think they’re stupid.

Also, everyone should swim nude and the camera should always be underwater filming their buoyant naughty bits.

Actually, I think the Olympics should be permanently in Greece, and all athletes should be nude as they were initially. Make the Olympics great again!
