What are your thoughts on the signs at the Tompkins Sq Park dog run that say “This isn’t a petting zoo. No dog, no entrance...” or something similar? Has always struck me as mean spirited.

I feel you. But you’d be surprised at how many people bring their kids in to play with the dogs! Plus, there are weird people that don’t necessarily mean well or know how to behave around dogs. Nobody wants to be liable because some idiot wanted to come in and play and then freaks out because the dog jumped up on him or nipped. People who own dogs are generally more aware of how to behave around them and will very likely just let the dogs play with each other, as they are supposed to, or just toss balls for them to chase. That’s just not smart or safe so they have to prevent people from coming in just to play with the dogs.

There are a lot of dog owners who really don’t like folks touching their dogs. Sometimes it’s for safety reasons, so they don’t end up broke and homeless if their dogs take a disliking to you and remove a few fingers before the owner can stop you.

We could do the same thing with kids! They would be adorable when they ran forward and their little shock collars went off!

(Trust me, you called down hell when you used the term “Shock Collars” HamNo)

You assume that people like children that aren’t their own. It takes some pretty unmerciful lawmaking to ensure the safety of other’s children. They are torturous beasts that bring out the devil in us all.

Consider the baby for a moment. Horrible.

The problem with shock collars is dogs will run through the invisible barriers if there’s something exciting enough on the other side (like a squirrel), but they won’t run back through it. So once they’re out of the area, they’ll stay out.

Love dogs but can’t have a dog?

Volunteer at the local shelter to walk dogs and play with them. Most shelters in big cities have areas where you can take a dog outside walk around the grounds and play with them.

    No shock collars needed.

I can’t, because then I will adopt one. And I’m a single dude who travels frequently for work so I can’t have one. So I’ll continue to watch an entirely not unhealthy amount of cute dog gifs at work.

Came here to say the same thing. I can’t have a dog in my apartment, so I’ve volunteered at our city’s shelter for years. It’s got all the “public dogs” you could ask for who would LOVE a walk! Our shelter even has play areas and doggie pools, too.

I can’t ignore the dogs like I do the other humans. The other humans don’t come up to me and bark and try to lick me. Other humans presumably shit but they don’t leave it in the middle of the ground where it’s hard to ignore.

Nope. Sorry, dogs are better than humans in every way. That’s just science and you can’t argue with science. The only fault I find in this article is that we shouldn’t use dogs. We should use pug puppies and they should all be wearing silly costumes.

If any of the public dogs turn out to be Bad Dogs, simply replace them with one of the many Good Dogs languishing in shelters just waiting for their chance to prove themselves.

After one or two face maulings, I’m sure we’d figure out which ones were the good ones...

Dogs are like DudeBros. Maybe ok one at a time, but put em in a pack, and even “good” ones do stupid, destructive shit and a few will do outright aggressive shit while the others look on dumbly.

Most of the world already has this, Hamilton. They’re called “roaming packs of stray dogs.” Every now and then someone gets killed.

You guys really are “short-timing” it this week, aren’t you?

People forget that feral dogs do not behave like well-kept house pets, especially if they've never known anything else. Feral dogs behave like animals. They fight and fuck and prey upon other animals they can kill, like small children.

Look at those two on the right, shamelessly humping where people can see them. That would never fly in ‘murica! Someone, somewhere, would ask you to think of the children.

There are public dogs in my city. They are wormy flea-ed up strays who all end up at my house where they get fat, lounge on couches, and occasionally pee by the bathtub in the middle of the night. Feel free to come over and walk one, Princess Sparkles is quite peppy.

At times the Greyhound station probably has less pee going on (foster puppies pee a lot).

Thankfully you have no idea who the dick is that resides within him. If you’re going to keep him just make sure there’s always a car around that is high enough so that you could crawl under it but low enough that he can’take. I love dogs and have one but pitbulls are not to be trusted. Go on YouTube and search out pig hunting with dogs. That’s what a pitbull is bred for and should not be living in a house with humans. http://m.ctpost.com/news/article/P…
