    Roof deserves a shit life but nobody should be rewarded for giving a jailhouse beat down. Saying Roof deserved it, or that it’s okay because it was Dylan Roof is not that different from saying this or that victim of a police beating or shooting deserved it because he or she had committed some crime or hadn’t followed the police orders to the letter. It’s easy to understand the satisfaction anyone might feel about this happening to this person, but don’t get too comfortable with it. Stafford should be charged with another assault and battery, but Roof can’t really do that without risking another beating, or worse. Somebody always has an excuse for a beating like this, even those guards who beat up kids at Rikers. They always have a reason for it. It doesn’t matter who’s doing it, it’s not something to be rewarded or applauded.

    I’m an idiot: he’s been incarcerated since Jan 2015 but hasn’t even had a trial yet? If you can’t post bail you can get locked up for over a year? IS THIS REAL?

      Yeah. It’s pretty common for incarcerated low income individuals to have to wait an excessive amount of time for their trial. They generally have an overworked public defender and since they can't make bail, they just have to wait and wait. Sometimes if they're found guilty they might get credit for time served but that's not a guarantee. The American justice system is fucked if you're poor or any color but white.

    Everyone should feel safe in jail. Detainees, guards, even a shitgoblin like Dylann Roof. Anything short of a safe environment is unprofessional.

      Not a hero, no. I dont think its heroic to attack someone weaker than you, and I think others would have a stronger case for vengance than this guy. I’m thinking of it more like a minescule release of tension.

    This highlights what’s wrong with our criminal justice system. 1.5 years in jail because he can’t make a 100k bail. If he was rich and/or white, he wouldn’t have served a day. The only way he can raise the those funds is to beat up a much-loathed fellow inmate, an offense that if happened on the outside would’ve put him in jail to begin with.
