It’s understandable to panic and start shooting when a car comes racing toward you like that. The adrenaline starts pumping and the urge to survive takes over.

It should also be understandable that anyone who reacts in that fashion should never be permitted to be a patrol officer for the rest of their lives.

I have all the respect in the world for police officers who risk their lives to keep communities safe, but if they prove unreliable in a crisis, they need to be moved to a desk permanently, if not removed from the force altogether.

I firmly believe being a police officer means being held to a higher standard than an average citizen. Which is why I can’t comprehend the public not only forgiving - but sometimes praising - police officers that succumbed to panic and killed unarmed citizens. If - after your training and experience - your natural reaction is to “shoot first and ask questions later” you are not fit to be a police officer and should be removed from duty.

He’s using his car as a weapon, and at that point the police should have the right to open fire on him.

They violated department policy by firing on a moving vehicle. Then shot a fleeing suspect in the back. This really is just a straight up execution.

Not to mention the total twattery of handcuffing a person who was just shot and then complaining about getting fuckng desk duty for 30 days!

Aside from everything else, I can't believe they also cuffed a dead body and tried to make it look like everything was still under control.

At least it solves the question that has been raised. This cops words speak very loudly. 30 days desk duty is worth more than the life of a young black man.

And the silence from police officers and the their unions and brotherhoods speaks volumes.

Black man ambushes cops and kills them, people of color jump out immediately to express sympathy and and anger at the actions of the murderer. Cop kills black man, call him a “bitch ass motherfucker” and not a peep from a current officer from Chicago.

Every crime is a capital crime? No.

We’re all criminals. We all drive a few miles over the speed limit, we all pause rather than stop at stop signs, we all drank beer before turning 21, millions of us have tried pot. Police can’t just kill everyone!

Why weren’t they trained to shoot out the tires, and not directly at the person driving?

And the fact that this man / kid was shot in the back while actively running away from the cops is sickening. He obviously posed no threat to them anymore. I don’t think they necessarily wanted to kill him, but they wanted to stop him from getting away so badly that they DID kill him. Ego really shouldn't play a part in law enforcement.

If the guy had gotten that close to hitting me with his car...you bet I’d fire into the car. The car is the weapon at that point.

Did you even watch the video? Officers were shooting into the car when they weren’t near it at all, in the direction of other cops!

You’d also be violating department policy and should suffer the consequences of doing so.

one of the officers, who said he shot at O’Neal, says, “F—, man, I’m gonna be on a desk for 30 g—— days now. F—— desk duty for 30 days now. Motherf——.”

Well if you don’t want to be doing the paperwork, then don’t use the gun. Jesus, but it is a weak reason to try and get cops to stop shooting people but if that message works....

Cops always whine about how dangerous their job is, so why aren’t they happy to get desk duty?

If the suspect hit a child in the street while fleeing, would this have ended better? And don’t think that wouldn’t have been at viable outcome. Given all possible choices, this outcome was not horrendous. The car was a weapon. The suspect was reckless with the weapon. The officer did right by me. Put me on the jury, and I’ll award the officer a medal.

I won’t go into how insulting your opponent shows the weakness of your argument; however, I will suggest that you learn to use commas when attempting to do so. It will make you look less silly and just mad. “don’t you dipshit?” Does not mean what you wanted it to mean.
