Thanks Ashley. I take a week vacation and you manage to post the best art that has ever been on gawker.

“A bunch of people were doing what I assume was parkour.”

Probably capoeira, the only thing more annoying than parkour

That’s an artistic knockout, and an electrifying and excruciating statement.

I liked the 45 people playing 1960s spacetronauts with Hefty garbage bags to open the show. Today I learned that a brazilian invented the wrist watch 300 years after it was invented. The same guy invented human flight 4 years after it was invented. And I can blame Brazil for parkour.

Actually it’s stupider than you think, the watch thing. The watch was designed by Cartier for Santos-Dumont and became the first mass-produced, popular wristwatch... for men. Women had been wearing them, as you implied, for many, many years before that.

But congratulations, Rio. You celebrated the French invention of the MAN watch.

Mass produced wrist worn “time peices” existed for military purposes well before that. It gets much mo more stupid. His flying paper box was designed and built in France. When they figured out how to use a motor, they used a Wright brother motor.

I was only watching for Gisele and Team America entering, and only saw the latter. :(

Anyway, Matt Lauer was horrible as usual, too serious f(for the most part) for something that’s supposed to be kind of irreverant and fun. I never thought I’d miss Bob Costas.

Hoda on the other hand could do no wrong. You could tell from the start that she was super excited about it. If NBC was smart they would have given us Kathy Lee and Hoda (or at least just Merideth and Hoda) narrating the entire thing while drinking.

Aw. Well, then in case you didn’t see the end when it happened, it was truly dazzling:

That kinetic sculpture... well, it leaves me speechless.

I had to stop after the 5326633th shot of Isele dancing in the crowd. Of all the performets dancing, or, you know, the REST of the attendees, why keep showing her jump up and down?

    Supermodels. They're just like us?!

Aside from the remarkably tedious parade of athletes that seemed to take a week to finish, the opening ceremonies were stunning. And that kinetic sun sculpture thing behind the cauldron was absolutely mesmerizing. No video, since NBC would sue me.

I’m going to make a video of live streamed footage of the Olympics tomorrow. I fucking dare NBC to sue me. Oh, shit, I forgot: I “work” for them (quotation marks because they’ve never paid me for any of that grueling, gruesome, unethical, never-ending work).
