Mo Rocca is apparently a “Cats” #1 super fan.

    http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/24/the…

“The television correspondent Mo Rocca is one of those who became (perhaps) scarily infatuated. He and his best friend Mario discovered “Cats” when they were 13, in Bethesda, Md., comparing notes over the London and Broadway cast albums.

At 14, he got the birthday present of his dreams: a family trip to New York to see the show.

Their seats were lousy. And “my father got restless, and in the second act when Betty Buckley started singing, he started jangling his keys — that was when all dads had, like janitor keys,” he said. “I couldn’t hear the first notes. It didn’t matter.”

Thoroughly besotted, Mr. Rocca proceeded to write a fan letter to every member of the cast. For Ms. Buckley, the show’s Grizabella, he made a replica of the cover of Time magazine with her picture on it. “My older brother used a word I had never heard before,” he said. “It was stalker.”

I saw Cats when I was like 5 so I don’t remember all that well, but there was a racist song?

According to the linked NYT story...

A few tweaks have been made. Gone is the song featuring potentially offensive Asian accents of the Siamese cats.

Yeah, I clicked the link and saw that as well. These are the kind of racism accusations that drive me absolutely crazy as a liberal.

Oh my GOD why is everything so fucking boring now. Trump is boring, and stupid, and a moron. Cats is boring, and stupid, and moronic. Gawker has lost its edge. Where are we to turn for hope?

Yes, but the real question is- drugs then porn? Porn then drugs? Both at the same time?

Having seen Cats, I can only say a gas leak that would choke everyone in the theater to death would only improve the damn thing. I hate that show with a passion I normally reserve for right wing wackjobs.

People trash Cats but what the fuck is up with Hamilton?

Our founding fathers rapping and shit, that sounds so fucking stupid and it won a fucking Pulitzer. At least Cats never won a goddamned Pulitzer. What the fuck is up with that? Broadway is lame. Musical theater is stupid as fuck. Plays should be about depressed with alcoholism. Nothing else.

I’ve heard it’s actually quite good. It retells the story of Alexander Hamilton in a mostly accurate fashion in a way that’s relatable to people. Now that is based on reviews, as I honestly know no one who has been able to see that constantly sold out show.

I saw the original “Cats” when it first opened at the Winter Garden Theater (and yes, I liked “Memory”) ... the lights were dimming, costumed felines wandered around the seats and aisles, the scene was being set, I was ready to suspend disbelief, when my wife at the time looked at me and said, rather loudly, “You know, Betty Buckley played the mother in Eight is Enough...” Talk about a buzzkill. I still like Memory, though.

Cats did provide the best joke of David Letterman’s first Late Show broadcast, courtesy of a Paul Newman cameo.

I haven’t been to a lot of Broadway shows, but I’m under the impression that $1,200 worth of stuff in the gift shop is like two T-shirts and a hat.

Growing up in nassau county my childhood was ruined by how many cats commercials were constantly on television. I should sue for mental damages, because now that the show is back im having flashbacks.
