    Over on the Maddowblog, Steve Benen points out that George the Lesser had a similar run-in with a Gold Star mother, and yet found the grace to reply this way:

    “I sympathize with Mrs. Sheehan,” Bush said at the time. “She feels strongly about her position, and she has every right in the world to say what she believes. This is America. She has a right to her position.”

    Trump does not have a tenth of the posture and grace of any past president.

      Remember when we used to make fun of little George whenever he’d say something silly like “Make the pie higher” or “Is our children learning?” We used to think THAT was bonkers for a President to say.

      And now we have Trump... who makes Dubya look as eloquent as Winston Churchill.

      My neighbor works on her yard obsessively. She mows and clips and chops shit down on a daily basis. Her yard looks gorgeous, and she’s always been exceedingly polite to me.

    Pretty sure trashing the parents of a dead soldier was never the campaign’s idea. Say what you will about anyone taking the calculated risk of getting into bed with Trump, but the people running the campaign and attempting to coordinate his messages are professionals.
