I know it seems like a stretch to jump to the conclusion that a member of the NYPD was involved, and we don’t have any evidence to that effect. But it’s worth noting that it’s not that much of a stretch:

And one that is even more unbelievable than the others in terms of straight-up stonewalling: http://gothamist.com/2014/12/05/cop…

    And the always-classic:

(in that last case, for some reason one cop was clinging to the hood of a moving police car and was injured when the car stopped)

And of course, after the NYPD declined to do anything, the DMV itself found that there was no reason to hold the officer responsible for his bad driving and let him off without punishment, saying it was an “unavoidable” crash. Even though the cops changed their story at the last moment from “we had our lights and sirens on and it was his fault he didn’t see us coming” to “actually the lights were off, because we were sneaking up on a crime scene with a knife-wielding assailant we didn’t want to escape.” Except, the 911 dispatch records showed that they weren’t assigned to that case at all.

Yup. Sounds like a stolen car. Or a cop did it. In a real twist, perhaps a cop did it in a stolen car?

    Case closed. Harambe did it.

I don’t know if it’s the case in NY, but in Maryland we rely on dealerships to fill out appropriate information for temporary tags and submit that information to the motor vehicle administration. So crazily enough, if some back office guy gets behind on paperwork or fudges a plate or simply doesn’t submit the paperwork, there’s not an easy way to track down the vehicle owner until they officially register it.

So if you have the car, you know who the driver is and you probably have this on video then the reason the NYPD has not made an arrest is the driver was Jesus Christ (now that’s a stretch), or a high ranking polices officer that’s not a:

“That seems to me like a bit of a stretch”

Because if it smells like a high ranking polices, hits people like a high ranking polices then it’s probably a high ranking polices.

They may not have a shot of the driver’s face from the video. They know who owns the car involved in the incident but they may not be able to establish that the owner of the vehicle was behind the wheel that evening. As, no person is obligated to incriminate themselves they need some evidence to place the owner behind the wheel.

Was the car stolen at the time of the killing? If it stolen, it would obviously be difficult to figure out who was driving. It’s difficult to tell from the sources, and the police don’t mention it.

Even if it’s not stolen, it’s difficult to know precisely who was driving without more evidence, but it shrinks the circle of people who have access to the car.

MY hope is that they might not want to tip their hand if the investigation is ongoing.
