Is the police tape necessary there? I didn’t know voting while black is officially a crime, so… that seems excessive.

CAUTION everyone. Black guy voting over here.

So, I did my thesis on this and I thought the solution would be obvious to more people but I guess it’s not.

All we need to do is make public transportation free for election day. Just as we close down school gymnasiums to allow voters to congregate and cast votes we should close down public transportation and repurpose it for the goal of getting more voters to the polls.

This could most easily be accomplished by rerouting city buses to places where most voters that don’t have cars live and congregate. Pick them up on the bus and take them to the nearest voting location. Then, drop them back off.

If you put new bus stops for just this one day in many popular areas like strip malls and churches you would solve around 75% of the issue. But we also need to realize that we will never get 100% voter turnout. Some people just don’t care about voting [looking at you, Bernie Bros].

Numerous laws to fix a non-existent problem. But try anything with guns and it's horrific oppression. The GOP isn't even trying to hide their hypocrisy.

Voter ID is the new poll tax. The Democrats did it back in the day to keep black folks from voting republican in the South and now Republicans do it to keep black folks from voting democratic. The more things change...

Things can change but the reality most white Americans could give a flying fuck about what happens to black, Indigenous and Latino Americans. The continued resistance to such a pathological view of humans gives me hope for those groups. I have no hope for white people and the ancestors are kee-keeing.

The idea that technology will save us is nonsensical. Your expectation that an inanimate object will solve problems of subjective creatures is investing valuable brainpower in a silly vision of the future. Humans need to solve human problems.

It’s almost like the massive wave of voter suppression laws are directly contradicting the Supreme Court’s assertion that racism is in the past and there’s no reason for “historically racist” states to get federal approval before they can suppress the vote.

Why aren’t we talking about nationwide “Vote by mail” yet? If Oregon and Washington State can pull it off, why the hell can’t the rest of the country get in on it? I just got my ballot a week and a half ago, already mailed it in. If you didn’t want to pay for the stamp, there’s always mail drop boxes at post offices and other locations.

“Going to the polls” is outdated in the physical sense.

Or fuck, how about early voting? Here in WI a federal court just reinstated our expanded early voting (including the ability to be open on weekends) that drew THOUSANDS of people.

I ask completely from a point of curiosity. How the hell does one live in the US without either a driver license or state ID!? I use mine a half dozen times each week!

I get you may not have a checking account or credit cards. BUT HOW DO YOU BUY BEER!?

you have an ID that isn’t one of those two. one of the reasons the North Carolina one got struck down was that the legislature openly and specifically targeted types of ID that predominantly poor black people had.

the classic case in Texas was “your student ID isn’t acceptable. membership card for a gun club is though”

Do you know anyone who doesn’t have a bank account? Lots of Americans don’t. How do you live without one?!

(For most people, buying alcohol or getting into a bar are literally the only things they ever use their ID for. What exactly are you having to pull it out on a daily basis for?)

These closures and restrictions have nothing to do with fraud, and everything to do with helping Republicans win elections.

The continuation of institutional racism is just the cherry on top!

There is Alabama, where 31 DMVs that doubled as voter registration locations were shut down this year, including those in almost all of the state’s counties with the largest minority populations.

I believe Alabama reversed their decision to close down those locations shortly after that article was posted. Still deserves to be investigated.
