CNN should be judged very harshly by history for continuing to provide Corey Lewandowski, Jeffrey Lord, Scottie Nell Hughes and the rest of the Trump surrogates a platform to spout false equivalencies, blatant misdirection and outright lies under the guise of, “gotta see both sides.”

It’s insane that they crossed that line, but I shouldn’t be surprised by anything anymore.

I watched the convention on CNN and you could tell Paul Begala and Van Jones had to practice an extraordinary amount of restraint every time Jeffrey Lord opened his mouth. Even Gloria Borger looked like she wanted to punch him.

As CNN’s own Paul Mattingly points out, despite Trump successfully running as an anti-Iraq War candidate, he said multiple times before and during the invasion that he would support intervention in the country.

In fairness to Deadbeat Donald, there is a potentially strong argument that his spoken and written endorsements of the Iraq War are not representative of his views. But perhaps his surrogates are hesitant to suggest that their candidate is suffering from some kind of dementia.

It is in their best interest to completely avoid this whole line of debate. His VP pick voted for the war, and he also expressed somewhat wishy-washy support. Everyone now in hindsight thinks it is a bad idea. He has nothing to gain by staying on this road.

Right now they should be moving away from conversation of the Iraq War. But Trump can’t do that and continue to press his attacks on Muslims and foreigners.

It bothers me how much of Trump supporters’ defense of their candidate is some form of, “He was lying when he said that stuff,”

Usually candidates want to be believed when they make statements and promise. In Trump’s case, everyone including people who like him are hoping that he is just kidding about everything he says.

People say that Hillary is dishonest, but at least no one is HOPING that she is dishonest.

If Trump was President, the VFW wouldn’t have any V’s of FW’s because he would’ve solved everything by not understanding it so much that it would cease to be a problem and we could all go back to work on Veteran’s Day because we wouldn’t need veterans and if we did we could negotiate with them not to die in battle because the invisible hand of the market would create jobs!

Though it’s worth noting that Lewandowski’s accusations are tame compared to other members of the Trump campaign staff:

Did you forget Faux news is still a thing that exists? CNN still has a long ways to go before they reach the “repeat the GOP agenda ad nauseam” level of reporting..

But Fox has always been in the gutter. Nefertitties’ point is that CNN was actually respectable once, and they are now just part of the race to the bottom.

It’s crazy that the man is so blindly arrogant and narcissistic that he physically cannot bring himself to thank Khan and his family for their service and sacrifice, and then shut the fuck up and not say anything else. He is literally incapable of letting it go or not trying to get the last word in. And he wants to talk about having the best temperament—this is one of your citizens, and you expect people to trust you to be able to deal with foreign world leaders?

I know, and it’s fucking glorious. Mass media is waking up from their Trump induced sugar coma and realizing what a maroon he is. His lackeys can only sweep the shit up behind him shame faced, trying, hoping for a decent excuse to say it’s okay.

      Nah bruh, it’s NOT okay.

He has a point. If Trump had played the Khizr Khan situation this way all along, he would be fine. Heck, it would be brilliant. Because he is the candidate whose hands are clean at least when it comes to the Iraq War. But, he just can’t resist the opportunity drop some bigoted line in hopes of firing up his base. It’s his entire strategy.

There’s audio of him supporting it, as well as a Trump book supporting a second Gulf War. He supported going into Iraq in 2003 but because he didn’t hold a job where he had to vote on the invasion, his hands are clean?

Trump has a hard time with cause and effect and linear flow of time. He also thought that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine hadn’t happened yet, which is just as alarming.

Considering how far Putin’s hand is up Trump’s ass, perhaps he thinks Russia was merely rightfully reclaiming the Crimea, and it wasn’t “an invasion.”

Crimea had literally been plastered on every channel for days upon days upon days... I wonder if he watches TV or uses the internet *at all*. It’s pretty hard to not know about shit like that with average internet/TV usage. What the fuck did this guy do everyday before campaigning on behalf of bigots?

They can’t make up their mind. They go from trying to walk it back with Pence, to doubling down, to actually accusing the Father of being in the Muslim Brotherhood! Is this planned incompetence? It’s so fucking frenetic and crazy, but they know that their target audience will do zero fact checking, so it is open season. I am pretty sure they have office pools, seeing who can get away with the most outrageous shit.

But still - it’s super unlikely that you can win a general election with a coalition that is only built on “Trump no matter what” + “Never Hillary”. First, those two camps have a ton of overlap, and second, anybody who is undecided is clearly not in either of those two camps anyway.

it seems almost impossible that undecideds at this point will break for Trump. But I’ve thought a lot of shit over the last year was almost impossible, and a lot of that shit has happened, so what do I know?

Jesus Christ, is no one in the Republican Party going to tell the Trump Circus to just shut the fuck up about the Khan’s already? They need to pull the WIFI from whatever building he is in and have someone who's job it is to, I don't know, flash the camera or something whenever one of them tries to speak. It couldn't do more damage, at this point, than letting them continue on this stupid, petty attack.

It’s a funny thing to imagine, in a horrible way. It’s like the strategy they teach you when dealing with toddlers, called “substitution.” If you have to take something away from a toddler like a colander that you need to make supper or your car keys, you immediately give them something else as a substitute, to distract them before they have a chance to get upset.

I’m entertaining myself by imagining what objects/activities/treats they dangle in front of him to keep him off Twitter!
