Mrs. Khan also published a letter to Trump in the Washington Post, explaining her silence:

Humayun is my middle son, and the others are doing so well, but every day I feel the pain of his loss. It has been 12 years, but you know hearts of pain can never heal as long as we live. Just talking about it is hard for me all the time. Every day, whenever I pray, I have to pray for him, and I cry. The place that emptied will always be empty.

I cannot walk into a room with pictures of Humayun. For all these years, I haven’t been able to clean the closet where his things are — I had to ask my daughter-in-law to do it. Walking onto the convention stage, with a huge picture of my son behind me, I could hardly control myself. What mother could? Donald Trump has children whom he loves. Does he really need to wonder why I did not speak?

Donald Trump said that maybe I wasn’t allowed to say anything. That is not true. My husband asked me if I wanted to speak, but I told him I could not. My religion teaches me that all human beings are equal in God’s eyes. Husband and wife are part of each other; you should love and respect each other so you can take care of the family.

So, enough of this guy already.

I have praised the family in other posts, but.....

His continued presence on my TV is exploitive.

The GOP’s use of families who lost loved ones to criminals that happened to be illegal aliens was exploitive.

The Democrats’ use of families who lost loved ones to police shootings was exploitive.

    Stop it.

The Democrats aren't exploring them. They are choosing to continue to speak to the media and stand up for their son. Trump is a piece of shit and deserves to be berated for his comments.

My father served from 1982 to 2009. His father served from 1953 to 1978. We have been moved around the country more times than I can easily count. My mother and I grew almost accustomed to his departures overseas. The fear of losing him never quite disappeared. I can’t imagine having to live without him, but that was tthe possibility that came with the choice he made to defend his country.

The experience of military families is unique in America. But every American understands a parent’s love for their child. Even for Donald Trump, this feud does more than ever before to expose him for what he is: a petty, grasping bully who will stop at nothing to inflate his feelings of superiority and domination. No soul, indeed, Mr. Khan.

Agreed on all counts. My father served from 1968 to 1993, and my wife is currently serving. She’s been deployed once since we’ve been together (and once before that), and my dad served in the Fulda Gap during the Cold War.

...I can’t imagine my life without either of them. My wife and I have no children (and we’re not planning to), but losing my other half to a mission would be awful—I can’t imagine how much worse it would be to lose a child.

Trump lacks empathy not because he has no feelings; I am absolutely -certain- that he loves his children, in his own way. The problem comes in that he cannot imagine other people feeling the same way about their children, spouses, and extended family members as he does about his own, because in his mind, they are lesser people.

That’s what makes him such a monster. I believe he has the capacity for love—but he can’t see it in anyone not directly connected to him (or believe that they are worthy of it), because he genuinely believes he’s better just by virtue of being Donald Fucking Trump.

Fuck him, and fuck Ann Coulter for her shitty, awful take on Khizr Khan’s DNC speech; those who’ve never served a day in their lives are sometimes (and I mean sometimes here; most folks I’ve met are actually pretty cool about soldiers) awfully quick to criticize sacrifices and loss they’ve never had to experience for themselves.

I can say that many soliders and veterans I know are getting pretty sick of him. Between his attacks on John McCain, his non-donations to veteran’s organizations, and now this- he is ticking people off. I’m currently in the same division that CPT Khan was in, and let me tell you, people here are not amused by Trump’s attack on his family.

He is not wrong. Narcissists don’t have very flattering souls and lack a moral empathy. Even an atheist would call Trump soulless.

I know Germans and their mindset. There are some words I’d use to describe it, but “soulless” is not something I associate with them in general.

he punctuates with “Okay. ” in typing tweets, “sad!” can never miss, but if we are mocking his speech, we must include “Okay” or “believe me”

Please. Rick Snyder was a wonk that the same people who like Hillary Clinton absolutely jizzed over before he poisoned Flint. Hell, if that bitch hadn’t poisoned Flint, he would have been a prominent Never Trumper that would have had their name floated as Hillary’s VP material.
