I think Hillary would be the one trying to cancel them, since she’s the one (or at least her campaign coordinators) who doesn’t want exposure. Whether that means they try to maneuver the debates into times that make Trump feel “cheated” so he ends up bowing out of them, or the Hillary camp bows out directly, I think the ball is kind of in their court on this. I could easily see Clinton coming out with a statement saying something like: “We aren’t going to dignify the lunacy of this man, and insult the public’s intelligence by ‘debating’ him.”

I’m not convinced, by the way, that Hillary would slaughter him in these debates, considering the well-established fact that no event at which Trump makes an appearance ever ends up being what it was intended to be.

Not sure, though, what the rules are on this. It may well be the case that presidential candidates are strictly required by the FEC to appear at the official scheduled debates.

Nonsense. Trump is a toolbag who’d be destroyed in a real one on one debate with anyone.

Does everything have to be viewed through your anti-Clinton lens? There is no way on earth Hillary Clinton is more worried about the exposure of debates than she is relishing the opportunity for Trump to make a fool of himself to a national audience.

We get it. You wanted Sellout Sanders to win. That doesn’t mean Hillary is bad at every single fucking thing.

To be fair, and I say this not as a Trump supporter (dear god no), but Hillary didn’t exactly conduct herself well regarding the scheduling of debates in the primaries. So Trump may be right here. I guess even a broken clock is right twice a day.

They were scheduled a year in advance by a bipartisan commission, so try again.

Being scheduled a year in advance still doesn’t make going against the NFL a good idea. Why not have them on Tuesdays and Wednesdays?

All Clinton has to do is say yes, let’s do it, then we’ll see if Trump is dodging.

So, like.. is there any actual precedent for this? Is there anything binding him to show up to these debates? What if he just straight up refuses to show up to one or two of ‘em? Something tells me his hardcore fans would just cheer him on even louder. What would happen?

Clearly his complaint is she’s trying to hide from the debates because she knows he’ll crush her.

Ashley Feinberg clearly understands this and shares Hillary’s fear. Literally zero chance this post isn’t straight trolling.

If Donald Trump announced he was dropping out of a debate, here is what would happen:

      1. Clinton would say she will show up for the debate.

      2. The Commission would announce that the debate will go forward with only one candidate answering questions.

      3. Trump would change his mind and show up.

I want Werner Herzog and Gilbert Gottfried to take the stage and have Trump and Clinton feed them their lines from backstage.

There’s no need for him to fear looking uninformed—his entire campaign is built around it. He could literally waltz in, shrug, and say “I’m gonna gut Obamacare and replace it with—the best healthcare ever!” and his supporters will be totally fine with it, sans details. Ala every debate thus far, tax returns, etc. These people hate details.

The real pussy move is whining about the logistics. Hil can (should) pound her chest and ask him to man up.

Called it months ago. That slimy orange bag of loose runny bowel movements will never agree to debate Clinton on neutral ground or on any sort of normal terms. He will find ways to weasel and squirm his way out of them by using stupid excuses, then he’ll propose a “debate” on his terms, in front of his screeching fanboys. He’ll say something about “donating millions” to some flag-waving charity and when she declines he’ll claim she’s “against veterans” or some such idiocy. He’s a cowardly cretin who’d be utterly destroyed in a debate with anyone with half a brain.

If he doesn’t show, she should still do the “debate” anyway, but work in calling him a chicken every 3rd line, humiliating him on his own level, in his own lexicon, as Warren does. He can’t stand it. He’ll lose his mind and probably end up calling into the studio like it’s a Sunday chat show; he can’t help himself. The debates will be a humiliation for Trump whether he’s there or not.

I’m looking forward to Kaine spank Pence with nearly equal anticipation.

I agree, why does he get to set the terms and make the decisions? He’s either competent enough to engage in a real debate or he isn’t and IMO he’s not even close. “We’ll be looking into that”...”there’s much to consider there”...”we have great people with great ideas working on that”...it’s all 100% meaningless.

Not to mention that debate dates for the presidential election were set by the bipartisan Commission on Presidential Debates a year in advance, in fall 2015.
