      My stomach turns with model minority antics like these. My mother, a vengeful Somali woman, always told us never to join institutions of authority in the West. This included social work, teaching, policing and the armed forces. She went as far as to call a shir (a council of elders) in our apartment when a neighbour, a fellow Somali, told her that her son was applying to the Royal Military College.

      I thought, omg don’t say it - I’m barely holding it together. But she completed the thought many of us had when she said:

      “He came home a hero.”

    Having worked in the middle east, and having many near east friends (I grew up in england) I can say without a shadow of a doubt, all america needed was a real shining example of typical muslims.

    This guy is going to (continue to) be a superstar. This family is Clinton’s ace in the hole right now. Single-handedly putting more pressure on the Trump campaign that many attacks the Dems have tried to roll out so far.

    Sadly, I don’t think anyone they’re trying to appeal to cares about morality. But his are very powerful words.

      I think it’s just about motivating people who do agree, at this point. I think the DNC did an amazing job of contrasting itself against the GOP, and being very clear about its positions. I think the left has been crying out for a long time for some strength of character like this. I hope that the left voter base is sufficiently motivated and that not only is Hillary the President, but that Republican heads roll down ticket.

    Trump doesn’t understand greatness without big gold letters. Without the neon lights or “perfect ten” women with which he decorates his monuments to ego. That is why he will never understand America or what makes it great, much less “make it great again.”

    P.S. If we’re looking for outsiders, how about Senator Khizr Khan? It appears Tim Kaine’s seat would be in good hands.

    Lawrence O’Donnell actually earned a lot of respect from me when I saw this happen live. I fully expected him to cut the family off or rush to break when the father veered into the direction of praising Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan.

      Any Republican whose Congressional seat is up for grabs is going to be doing this. When Trump seems popular they’ll fall in line, and when it gets close and Trump has said 1000000 more offensive things and he’s clearly going to lose, they’ll try really hard to suddenly separate. Sad!
