What pandering? Clinton is an observant Methodist and a lot of Democrats are religious. Like Tim Kaine, their faith is the source of their passion for social justice. In particular, Jesuits, Quakers, and African American Christians have long, rich histories of religiously-inspired political activism and community service.

Pandering is what Trump does when he talks about “Two Corinthians” and lies about the bible being his favorite book.

Anyway, I thought one of the most powerful speakers tonight was Rev. Barber, who among many other things, is president of the North Carolina NAACP and who mobilized the Moral Mondays Movement (which is not getting nearly as much press as it deserves):

This speech didn’t necessarily make me feel any different about Clinton: that she’d make a far more competent President than Trump, for all her issues, is just as obvious right now as it was yesterday. But holy shit, this speech made me realize she’s got some goddamned good speech writers and advisors on her staff. Fucking hell.

Bring on the debates. Eat him alive, Madam Secretary. End this, and make him suffer in the process.

She could have the best speech writers in the history of ever, but she still has to deliver the speech. It was a masterful job. She is one consummate politician.

And boy did the troops rally for her this week. The boys certainly have her back.

I agree completely that the speaker has the heavier lift in a speech, but I can’t speak to the delivery. I’ve been at a function all night, and only read the transcript. From the comments and news and scuttlebut, I gather that she killed it, and I don’t mean to take anything away from her delivery... I just didn’t see it. And reading the text of the speech blew me the fuck away.

I was already motivated to vote for her, because the alternative is terrifying. But I’m getting more and more excited to vote for her. Or at least... less blah?

Hillary is going to eat Trump alive.

How much you wanna bet he implodes during the first debate and calls her a bitch or a cunt? You know his fragile ego won’t be able to handle being taken to task by a woman.

She should punctuate every sentence by staring him in the eye and saying “believe me!” Watch that cheeto go from original to spicy.

Trump is too cowardly to say something like that to her face when she has the chance to shut him down. His style is to talk shit behind your back. I bet he’ll retweet that Scott Baio tweet after one of the debates.

Me too! But then again, I’m pregnant and much more susceptible to emotion. I can’t wait to bring my daughter into a world where we have elected our first female president.

Trump wanted real fireworks at the RNC, but couldn’t make it happen. He settled for stock footage of fireworks.

Hillary made it happen at the DNC.

Hillary is already proving that she knows how to get things done. She is proving that the first woman to accept a major-party presidential nomination is the best woman for the job. And she’s proving she knows exactly how to drive Donald Trump crazy.

God love her - so many of the speakers at this convention made me cry. She didn’t. But I felt so much more confident after listening to her. She just seems so damn competent.

Unfortunately, ‘She just seems so competent’ should be her slogan. But it will be enough.

Competence is underrated. I’ve served under many bosses who were dynamic, efficient, goal-minded, upward-looking and all that shit, and nearly all of them ended up driving the company into the ground. A thoughtful, workmanlike, and, yes, competent leader is often the key to making things work. It’s when they hire the “flashy guy” that I start to update my resume.

    I love my family

A list of economic goals that I have never worked towards that the Sanders supporters forced on me.

All lives matter, except for those in the Middle East that the US has fucked.

    I FUCKING LOVE WAR

    Trump is bad

Woman president directly follows two-term black presidents, and they are both Democrats. I’m not that old, and I thought this would be many, many years into the future. I was convinced the first non-white and no-male presidents would be from the Republican Party before we’d get progressive Democratic ones.

I’m old (oldish) and I can remember when it was conventional wisdom that only white religious man from the South in order to be President. Which was why Clinton was seen as a god send then because he was a white man with a southern-type accent. I can remember when people thought Dukakis and even Mario Cuomo would never win because they were from the north-east and I remember people being skeptical about John Kerry because he wasn’t from the South. Now? Bring on the transgender Jews

I didn’t find it as inspiring as Obama or Bernie but it was a good speech and very inclusive. Whereas the Orange Man is all about himself, Hillary made me feel a part of a whole.
