They better stock those dirty panty vending machines. Also, hello kitty.

What you call outdated and distasteful they now call “the good old days.”

Not all Japanese citizens have the luxury of being showered in money like that, only the subset of young schoolgirls like yourself

I’m sick and tired of the top 1% of Japanese getting 90% of the tentacles!

What, the negative interest rate government bonds didn’t do the trick?

Negative *deposit rates... which result in a yield chase throughout the curve that causes the negative *bond rates you mention. Yours is a simple mistake, but a very great one.

My guess is 20 rich people will all hire helicopters and rig up a big net between them to catch the money before it hits the ground.

When Bush did this, the Massachusetts state police took 2/3 of it from me in a speeding ticket.

I didn’t know Mass. cops gave out speeding tickets. Too busy checking registration and inspection stickers.

Simon Kuznets, a Nobel winning economist, once said there are four types of countries: developed, underdeveloped, Japan, and Argentina.

If Japan actually does do helicopter money, most Japanese consumers will say “thank you for this gift. I will deposit it in my bank account.” And they’ll be right back where they started.

On the other hand, I don’t have a better idea. Every Japanese bond with less than a 20 year term is already yielding below zero and the government just announced a $270B stimulus, so unless they want to make it illegal to save money it’s hard to see how to end the 30 year recession.

There are several key differences between the lack of growth in Japan v. the U.S. that makes helicopter money a viable thing there but something that the U.S. won’t likely do here. We’re more likely to just give money away like we did a few years ago.
