I know it’s kinda cliche but..., we will learn to appreciate and celebrate her the longer we are removed from her husband’s presidency.

Michelle and Barack both. This is how it is with “first black” achievers. It’s not enough to be good enough. You’ve got to keep your shit smelling like flowers. You’ve got to overachieve. You’ve got to dazzle.

The first black president saw us through the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, ended the occupation of Iraq, and did it all without a bit of personal scandal or shame. Barack and Michelle are shining role models of what it means to achieve the American Dream. Americans of every color and creed will be able to look to them for generations as inspiration.

When we are old, I believe we will remember him with the same fondness our elders reserve for JFK and FDR.

I don’t know how I could appreciate or celebrate her more. Michelle Obama is one of the greatest Americans ever.

The story of generations of people who felt the lash of bondage, the shame of servitude, the sting of segregation, but kept on striving and hoping and doing what needed to be done so that today, every morning, I wake up in a house built by slaves.

That is genuinely, genuinely beautiful speechwriting. Bravo. And she delivered it with such amazing heart and power and was tearing up while doing it.

No speech could ever be as good as the interviews with the Sanders delegates after his speech.

I think Bernie has nightmares about being trapped in conversation with his supporters and with no visible means of escape.

I was being facetious, and it’s unfair to judge people who aren’t used to being on TV, immediately after what was certainly an emotional night for them. I like to think I’d do better, but the odds of that are pretty slim, tbh.

Still, I’d have to agree with your point. Not really people you’d want to be stuck talking to at a party. And they booed him this afternoon, so I’m sure he’s all, “fuck those shitheads.”

“Too bad.” So what would be the exact opposite of a dictatorship? We should make her do that. No strike that. Forcing her to do it against her will, would be the worst form of irony imaginable.

Oops. Jumped the gun with my earlier comment, didn’t think there was gonna be a post about her speech.

Which has by FAR been the best speech out of either convention. Talk about having control of a crowd. She was SO good, and so moving, it was electrifying. So I’ll just take this space to revel in her beauty and poise and intelligence and preemptively mourn the departure of the greatest First Lady of my time.

She’s right. Hillary is full of guts and grace. I certainly wouldn’t have enough of either to let Wall Street buy me out. But, then I guess I don’t have what it takes to be president.

Nice speech and all, but I can’t help but wonder which powerful, liberal young man would be speaking in her place if Bernie had been given a fair shake in the election.

Right? maybe next time, we can have an “election” where we each cast one “vote”....and the candidate with the most “votes” gets the nomination.

When she teared—and how real it felt—I teared too. Just sat silently and watched and hoped that all this light and positivity will shine through come November as well.

Instead of thinking about missing her (and her husband), get excited about what they’re likely to do next, and then after that! This is not a first couple that is going to retire from public life and taking up painting dog portraits or whatever. They’re not anywhere done working for good in the world, I bet.

In any event, Leslie Knope still speaks for me:
