I think you missed a gay joke in here as well. Come on man. Dicks for Trump? Golden.

Think I just came up with the Log Cabin Republican slogan for this election season.

The focus remained on him instead of his VP, which would have been the big news of the day in most other conventions. He’s an insane narcissist.

I’m still not sure he can overcome being viewed as disloyal to the party, or placing his own ego above the good of the party. That’s what a lot of Republican officials and talking-heads are saying. Maybe that fades out, but I’m not entirely sure. Even the Texas delegation was furious with him, though supposedly they’ve made up.

Either this works for Cruz, or it fails pretty spectacularly. I’m personally hoping for the latter. He’s only slightly less toxic than Trump. He’s just better at hiding his worst qualities.

I’d agree that it was a risky bet. I’m guessing his thinking was that with his high negatives (nobody likes him) this was his only shot at propelling himself into 2020.

Trump’s candidacy is pretty good evidence that a candidate can make a “fuck the party” run in the Republican party primary.

I mean, Bernie sort of tried the same thing, and he had some success. The big difference to me was that some of the core groups of the Democratic coalitions, like black people, tend to be a bit more united than the core groups of the Republican coalition.

It’s a dangerous game because he’s essentially violated the 11th Commandment.

Also, establishment Republicans already hate him, so he’s relying on party fringes to propel him back into the running in 2020. The problem is that the Venn diagram of those actively supporting Trump v. Cruz have a lot of overlap and they may not be so forgiving of his betrayal, unless they forget.

You know who else violated the 11th Commandment? TRUMP. At a national debate. When he said Bush lied about IRAQ. And when he belittled every other Republican onstage. Maybe violating the 11th Commandment ...isn't such a bad thing.

I think Trump is a bit of an anamoly. Cruz made some powerful enemies last night and he wlready is widely hated. The long knives will be out for him. He needs Trump lose by a big number. If it’s all close, he’ll take a significant amount of blame.

The Republican nominee for the vice presidency (a man the presidential nominee seems have no interest in or ability to interact with), also spoke last night, though you wouldn’t know it from watching or reading the news today.

Feature, not bug. The hardline Republicans all know hm anyway, but to moderates he is even more poisonous than Trump. Pence is just there to keep the base in line, not to actually speak to the electorate.

Anyone who has ever watched wrestling would not be surprised by the showmanship that Trump exudes. There is very little difference between WWE’s RAW and the RNC.

That is certainly how I saw it. Donald dropped a heel turn on Cruz without warning him first. That worked out fine for Cruz because it basically made him the captain of the no-Trumps-club that will almost certainly control the GOP after 2016. It works for Donald because who gives a crap about winning in November; he’s here for the show.

I don’t think he entirely realizes that all those people raging at the stage are not WWE stage-booing. They’re dead serious, and armed, and out of their minds.

All of the people who think Hillary is going to win are seriously deluded over both how much people hate her, almost as much as Trump, and how fucked she is going to make herself when she adopts all these Bernie-esque ideals for her platform and then none of the BernieBros vote for her because she’s just another part of the problem. No one who honestly and fervently supported Bernie’s premise of getting monied interests out of Washington is going to vote for one of the most bought and paid for candidates in modern history.

This election isn’t Hillary’s to win. It’s Trump’s to lose. If he sticks to the convention platform and can avoid any more serious gaffes, people are going to hold their noses and vote for him. While all those youths that Bernie riled up are going to be so disenfranchised with the whole debacle, most will stay home.

I love the confidence people have in Hillary but in a lot of polls in battleground states, she’s barely polling above the margin of error. For someone who is supposedly going to destroy Trump, that’s not good. If it was really such a lock for her she should be up on him by double digits across the board, and she’s not. Trump’s strategy (or apparent lack thereof) has up to this point been in a way, brilliant. He keeps everyone talking about him all the time, operating under the maxim that the only bad publicity is no publicity, gets the base fired up and behind him so that when the time comes to try and draw in the more moderate parts of the party, he can tone down the rhetoric and get them to hold their noses and vote for him.

Don’t get me wrong, I have zero desire to see either of them be president and don’t plan on casting my vote for either one, but at this moment all signs are pointing to Trump squeaking out a win.

LOL, in what version of American politics in the 21st century is it possible for ANYONE to be up “double digits across the board” in a general presidential election? Given the level of polarization we’re at, 1984-style blowouts aren’t possible anymore. Go back and look at the past elections that you’ve considered blowouts and they’re going to look closer than you think they were. Is this your first rodeo?
