The guy who shot wasn’t autistic, he was helping the autistic guy.

Black people’s hands are lethal weapons. So by raising them he was clearly threatening to kill police.

Seriously though, glad he’s alive and hoping he gets a big payout (really wish the police had to pay it and not taxpayers though).

I love that in the video he was (sensibly) like “I’m feeling OK, because I’m thinking that as long as I have my hands in the air, they’re not gonna shoot me.”

Sir, let me tell you a story or two...

So the autistic young man the police couldn’t communicate with who had the toy truck the cops mistook for ‘something’ in his hand who wasn’t Black, wasn’t shot, but the Black guy attempting to diffuse the situation who was in communication with the police with his empty hands in the air, was the person who got shot?

Just top flight police work right there, post-racial America.

Mind of I take this and post it everywhere, put it on shirts and flyers, maybe get a really dedicated skywriter to post the script to the heavens?

Just a perfect summary of this fuckery and the bullshit we’ve been dealing with.

“I thought it was a mosquito bite...”

He thought a bullet was a mosquito bite! See?! Clearly superhuman. With this future evidence I had no choice but to retroactively shoot him, as who knew when a gun would materialize in his hands and he would fly to his feet and kill me instantly on the spot. And that toy truck was clearly a hand grenade in disguise. Preventive. Smart. Good copping, is what I did.

Seriously though. If you can lay on the ground, hands in the air, and yell evenly to the authorities that you’re a behavioral therapist working with an autistic kid from a home, and STILL get shot. THERE IS NO HOPE. I am very happy that both of these men survived.

If he thought a gunshot felt like a mosquito bite, then he was clearly under the influence of crack, PCP, meth, bath salts and steroids. Clearly a menace to society.

The incompetence of some of our law enforcement officers is staggering.

I understand they’re responding to reports of an individual with a gun, but can they not tell the difference between a toy truck and a gun?

Or in Fresno, they were responding to reports about a man with a rifle yet they killed that kid despite him clearly NOT holding a rifle or gun of any sort.

Or in Minnesota, even if the officer had good reason to believe the victim was a robbery suspect, this isn’t a James Bond movie. He’s not going to whip out a gun while seated in a car and squeeze off a few rounds with lethal accuracy.

Or in Baton Rouge. Yes, he had a violent record. Yes, he was resisting arrest. Yes, he was armed. You could even concede he was reaching for his gun, which is debatable. Even so, you have two trained police officers pinning him to the ground. How could a person think that scenario justifies putting several rounds in his chest from literal point-blank range?

That is good news, but the facts that cowardly violence is perpetrated against law enforcement officers and that most LEOs are decent, conscientious people doesn’t mitigate the damage done by the minority of LEOs who seem to shoot first, learn later.

Damage done to society and, it should be stated, their own ranks, as well.

This has never happened to a suburban white voter.

    Therefore, this never happened.

Move along. The press is just trying to get people to hate cops. Because that’s good for the liberal agenda somehow.

Monday after getting a 911 call about a man with a gun threatening suicide.

Well it’s a good thing this cop came onto the scene, guns blazing, to ensure that someone got shot.

Cops need to be less trigger happy and better trained on mental health issues.

Maybe but we also need way fewer cops, fewer armed cops and a paradigm shift in which cops are forced to get it through their heads that racism may be a big motivating factor among the kind of people who call to report this guy in the first place.

Honestly? Mental health training is way too advanced for these guys. They need the most basic of de-escalation techniques. And I mean the most basic techniques.

For example, if you are called to a scene because of reports of a man committing suicide, but when you get there you see two people, one of whom claims to be the other’s caretaker, the other being an autistic man, you don’t hole up behind your car with your guns trained on them. You don’t a situation that was not a standoff into a fucking standoff. No one called you there because they were hoping you’d shoot someone. If you aren’t able to approach cautiously because he has something in his hand you can’t see (because everything in someone’s hand has to be a gun, right?), then just fucking leave because you’re making things worse. (Yes, the de-escalation technique I’m proposing teaching police is just to just fucking leave. Add an extra day to the 19 days of training they receive before getting a gun and authority to use it for them to learn it).

You know, to operate in this nation as a Black man I just can’t walk around thinking that this nation hates me and wants me dead. You can’t think that way without being incredibly angry. It’s no way to live. I made it through my 20's thinking that way somehow. I still can’t dwell on the moments I could’ve been killed by police. This stuff is so in your face that you can’t ignore it. Totally fuckin disgusting.

I don't want you dead. Not in that #notallwhitepeople way, either. I could really go for a hot chewy pretzel right now, and if you were here with me and were down for some pretzel action I'd be like "let's go to the goddamn mall and pretzel up." I would much prefer that to your being dead.
