So this is a little odd. Why would Trump have his wife read a speech plagiarized from Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic convention in 2008?

This scene and the whole RNC is giving me flashbacks of Bob Geldof (Pink) orating at the fascist rally in The Wall:

Hate to be that guy, but Bob Geldof wasn’t in P!nk.

He was in the Boomtown Rats

Yes, a song from a British band with a gay lead singer who died of AIDS and who was born in Zanzibar. Definitely, that appeals to the Trump electorate.

Queen should buy a little commercial airtime during the convention and do a 30 sec super cut of Freddie being as flamboyant and “offensive to christian sensibilities” as possible and set it to “We Are the Champions.”

Or maybe just a statement from Queen in the right papers that says “Every Queen song is in SOME way about man-on-man butt fucking. Sometimes, non-consensual.” Queen fans won’t care, but we can be fairly certain that the RNC will stop using any music from the band.

Queen should sue him. He’s been told they don’t want him using it.

If the arena has an ASCAP license for publicly playing the song - which is likely does - that makes it a little harder to go after the campaign than if it was used, for example, in a TV ad. They could still go after him for it, but it might take more money and time than it would be worth.

Thank you. I was wondering how they were getting around May specifically telling Trump not to use it. It’s not like he’s going to be scared off by Trump’s legal posturing.

So, this hasn’t been mentioned yet, but it is WEIRD for a pres candidate to show up on stage before the last day.

You know he was going to, though. There is no way he was going to let other people have the spotlight, even if it is still about him.

Oh for sure. I’m just psyched that none of my expections for GOPCon 16 have gone unmet thus far.

A song by a Dutch band of questionable ethnicity?

Makes about as much sense as Queen, I guess.

I don’t get these guys. You have a musician in your ranks who I’m sure would let you use any of his songs, and he’s just as racist, sexist, and insane as any of you, and like your platform hasn’t been truly relevant in about 40 years.

Of course I hesitate to call him a musician, kind of the loosest use of the term, but yeah it’s Nugent.

Honestly, I’d be shocked if there weren’t more multimillionaire musicians who have some Republican tendencies. For all the legal work and copywrites that Gene Simmons comes up with, I’d be shocked if he wasn’t a Republican.

And “Stranglehold” is a fucking awesome song.

Reminds me of a particular 80's sex comedy’s salute to civil rights: “Join us, because, uh, no one is gonna be free until nerd persecution ends.”
