Bought a stylishly distressed pair of of Oxfords from them once upon a time . Fell apart within the season.

You can’t trust a company that sells bad shoes.

In 2011, a 1987 Kruger bearing the slogan “When I hear the word culture I take out my checkbook” sold at auction for $902,500

The irony is strong with this one.

My new gallery show featuring photocopies of skidmarks I found in my skivvies will destroy all their commercialism in one fell swoop!

Did you already sell out of the “Shroud of Turin Hanes Tagless” prints? My buyer wants one in the low 100s. I also got a Saudi Price interested in the original, if you could put me in contact with the current owner.

Can white letters in a red box really be a “style”? Does Microsoft Paint pay royalties to Kruger?

She does not “examine” anything in her work. She sells crap just like American Eagle sells crap.

Whenever I hear this argument lobbed at artists, there’s one very simple answer: Nobody is forced to buy it. It has a use-value of zero beyond the materials. The only pricing mechanism is what a buyer is willing to pay. Dislike the valuation of a piece of art? Blame the buyers. And maybe blame the foundations that run museums and galleries as a racket, so that donors can get estate tax breaks through CRUTS and CRATS and such.

Me, I like Barbara Kruger’s art. It’s fun. It has a sense of humor. It neatly sends up of the whole enterprise of PR/advertisement that sells utilitarian products by working on our longing for immaterial emotional reassurement. It does so by completely getting rid of the utilitarian product, allowing the abstract longing to stand on its own.

One of Kruger’s flaws was that many of her images were so vague and ambiguous they could be easily mistaken for “edgy” advertisements.

Not a flaw as it was very intentional.

Not everyone has to get it.

I know this post is about Kruger, but this isn’t the first time American Eagle has tried to rip off an artist’s look and feel: http://www.miaminewtimes.com/arts/miami-art…

I also wanted to type AholSniffsGlue.
