I saw frightening video of people being arrested while on private property. I think that was Louisiana. I also saw some horribly frightening video from Rochester New York. Cops dressed in full riot gear chanting “move back” in robotic voices. A lot of the people out there protesting are first timers. I can always tell who they are because they are on video reacting in shock at the way that the cops are treating them like enemy combatants.

i like how we are using domestic police terminology (“riot gear”) to talk about police wearing military surplus tactical gear and using military surplus weaponry.

let’s call it what it is: militarized police.

That is riot gear. You argue about how silly it is for cops to run around in camo with rifles all day but riot gear has been par for the course around the world for a long time now.

As if this is something new. Yelling, “don’t move!” and “Get on the Ground!” or “Hands in the air!” at the same time is a common tactic to justify greater use of force, tacking on additional charges, etc.

Another variant of the above is to force people from the sidewalk onto the street and then arrest them for jaywalking.

Once they have an arrest on the record, it’s harder to get a job...

You forgot “Quit resisting” while they kick and beat you during the arrest.

“But if you move into the roadway and break the law, you’re going to be arrested.”

Oddly, they don’t have the same unflagging sense of justice when it comes to cops outright slaughtering unarmed black people.

I hope there is some video, so we can see if any police officers stepped onto the road at any time. If so, I'm sure those officers were promptly arrested right along with protestors

Worse, they stormed a private residence. They forced the protesters off the public space, onto private property they had permission to occupy, and then assaulted the home. They need to be arrested for trespassing and home invasion.

How do you dress up like that (riot gear) and not realize that you are fucking Darth Vader in this morality play?

That’s what fucking kills me. Motherfuckers cheer for Luke Skywalker ‘nem, but actually ACT like Stormtroopers. How on earth do they not understand that they WILL be in history books like those cops siccing german shepherds on civil rights marchers?

I have conversations with folks that I work with, that claim to know and like me, but will post shit on Facebook like it’s not the meme version of those sneering, vehement whitefolks INCENSED that 9 black kids want to get an education with them. Like they aren’t the ones who would pour sugar on the heads of the people sitting at the restaurant counter. How on earth are everybody’s low-key racist uncles and stonily circumspect mothers not realizing that they’d be the “good Germans” in this situation?!

And how are folks catching Pokemon instead of being outraged as fuck?

Do black folk need to wear church clothes and set our filters to sepia tone before people realize that they are in the midst of a Civil Rights movement?

I’m really wondering about that supposed plot to attack Baton Rouge officers that was “foiled” a few nights ago.

After Alton Sterling was shot, the first priority of the Baton Rouge P.D. was to detain the store owner and seize his cell phone and his surveillance equipment. Their body cameras oddly weren’t pointed in the right direction during the shooting, did the one cop yell, gun, gun, gun to justify the shooting knowing the audio would be picked up.

Yeah, it is especially ironic Leshia Evans was arrested for “obstructing traffic/roadway” when it was really the line of police who were obstructing the roadway... (like cops speeding when there is no emergency, happens ALL THE TIME, but they don;t get in any trouble for it... Tired of civil rights being trampled as a matter of SOP “just arrest them for ‘resisting’ and HA HA, they’ll have to fight it out in court...”

I have a few conservative friends on my Facebook feed that have been posting response to this that in summation are “if they don’t want to get arrested to step into the streets, what has marching in the streets ever done?” I need to start posting pictures like this from Selma, and from the Salt March. Marching in the streets gets it done!

I guess when people are protesting your officers for murdering someone and you only violate there civil rights that would seem to be a fairly “moderate”response as opposed to beating them with batons and pepper-spraying them first.
