I guess they want to edit out the scene where they launch a flaming jaguar into the giant torch to start the Games.

Y’know what would really smack one more coffin nail down on old media’s sarcophagus? Delaying and hour or so the broadcast of popular events that are available in real-time on the internet.

Not for nothing, but I’d probably tune in if they attempted celebratory back-flips. That seems like it’d be more in my wheelhouse of funny.

Personally, I think that the IOC should award the Olympics to India to see if they can completely fuck up too. Because the other three BRIC nations have been so good at fucking up.

Aside from the toxic air and water pollution, use of over 100 million migrant laborers working in dangerous conditions to build the facilities (many of whom went unpaid), along with censorship, suppression of protests, oppression of Uyghurs, and ties to Sudan, I’d say that the Beijing Olympics went swimmingly.

Are you supposed to suck the poison out, like with a snake bite? If so, I’ll take one for the team.

Between the Republican convention and the Olympics, I’m so excited I don’t know what to do! If both cities don’t burn to the ground, I’m gonna be sorely disappointed.

They are not taking into account the existence of Facebook live and Twitter Periscope spoiling all of the Olympic results. I will remain off the internet to preserve my level of surprise when the Brazilian track team is disqualified for being shemales and the English swimmers for being dead.

This is only in relation to the opening ceremonies, but a lot of Olympic coverage for quite awhile has been “tape delayed”. NBC always puts together their primetime special to show various events, especially when there are large timezone differences. Yet, in the NBC Sports app you can watch those same events live. They aren’t unaware of this, its just that the average viewed doesn’t want to watch 4 hours of Gymnastics, they want to watch the highlights condensed into 30-60 mins.

Interesting factoid, and very true. The average viewer would rather watch 90 minutes of teenage girls running around pulling out the wedgies from their leotards.

Both Olympics and the US presidential thingy should do the same: Postpone for one year so that the locals have time to get their shit together, and perhaps prioritize some.

NBC has been airing nothing but disasters for the past 20 years in primetime without time delays. Why start now?
