Rich people should be the only ones among us who run for political office, for they are the least susceptible to corruption and influence. Since most wealth is hereditary, it also attests to their natural, innate superiority.

And they should be criminals, too! After all, who better knows the ins and outs of criminal law than someone who’s actually had to stand trial under its auspices?

Your reply is uncomfortably close to snide humor, please refrain from even thinking about jokes around me. This is a serious comment. Thanks.

Every time I think of Evan Bayh I think about this guy I met at a party in DC who kept telling us, over and over, that he worked for Senator Evan Bayh. I really wanted to punch the guy, and apparently toward the end of the night, I did. (It got a little blurry) Oddly enough, this is pretty much what about I think about Evan Bayh now.

to be fair, Evan Bayh is actually a fairly nice guy. If you met him you wouldn’t want to punch him in the face....

This is the D.C. scene, according to everybody that can no longer stomach the D.C. scene. The ones that can tell the same story but somehow make you out to be the bad guy

Evan Bayh is probably the most generic man in Congress. Like if you had to cast a minor character in a tv show to play “the Senator”, he is the one you would pick. He’s handsome in a really boring and unappealing sort of way. Even his name is boring (the extra H does literally nothing).

Even his Wikipedia article is pretty dull. You could probably go in and change his party affiliation or alter his voting record without being caught for a long time if you're careful and don't leave any grammatical errors behind.

Yes, I don’t think he really has principles, as much as a series of triangulating positions he takes based on current sentiment.

Hillary is a slightly lighter version of this, which is why she doesn’t create a lot of excitement. Rather, she’s the better choice over the sentient dumpster fire.

Evan Bayh is a piece of shit. He’s not half the man his father was. Birch Bayh wrote Title IX, the 25th and 26th Amendments, and the ERA. He tried to reform the Electoral College. And he saved Ted Kennedy’s life after their plane crashed. Birch Bayh is a goddamn national hero, and his son is a milquetoast sellout.

But he’s the best senator you’re going to get from Indiana.

Ugh. This! He’s not a spectacular choice but he’s much better than the GOP alternatives. Plus, frankly, anything that helps the dems take control of the Senate to seat a young, liberal (or liberal-ish) justice to fill the mighty dent Scalia left in the bench, is a good thing.

Exactly. I have a letter from his father from the 1970s when I wrote him to express my admiration for his accomplishments. Best Indiana democrat ever, in my opinion.

So interesting story. You know Sharp Electronics? They make TV’s, Microwave’s, Business Photocopiers? Their original product in 1912 was the “Ever Ready Sharp Pencil”. Hence the modern name “Sharp”.

Yeah, Sharp Electronics got its start making mechanical pencils over 100 years ago.

“that he was leaving the Senate because it was a broken institution, paralyzed by partisan gridlock, where senators too busy raising money from wealthy interests to accomplish anything.”

Y’know what I miss? That broken partisan institution where I need to raise money constantly. o.O

Also, the last thing we need is another god damn hawk. Some of us are sick of the constant war footing we are on. If I had one thing I could ask for, that any president would do, it would be an end to the AUMF. Fuck that shit. Patriot Act, and Public Funding of Elections would be up there as well.

I love it when Democrats and Republicans can work together:

“Hey, Evan, this Senate thing is BOOOOOORING! Did you plump up your retirement accounts yet?”

“I told you it would be Dan, but thanks for holding onto my seat for a minute! I’ll make sure you get set up when you go - just stick around for my next retirement, this worked out pretty great!”
