So if the guards are uncomfortable with this, the emergency response personnel are uncomfortable with this, and the benevolent association is uncomfortable with this, the question becomes simple: who’s getting paid to award this clearly counterproductive contract? This stinks of corruption.

It’s really adorable how this company has named itself to try and appear as legitimate US military. Adorable might not be the adjective I’m thinking of.

I did a whois query on “uscsog.com”. The registration info is hidden behind a privacy pseudonym. That’s some real transparency there.

      This reeks of Blackwater.

Adorable is an anagram of “labored.”

      Kinda works.

It’s a great system for military contractors:

    1. Gear and train prison guards.
    2. Prison guards with a history of abuse, continue to abuse or treat them even worse.
    3. Even normally non-violent prisoners retaliate after being treated like crap.
    4. Prison asks for newer weapons and training

Better yet, let them outsource the guards altogether. You hire the guards back on at reduced pay, then charge the state a 15% premium for your trouble. The governor then bills this as “cutting waste” and “shrinking Big Government.” Everybody wins!

Bonus points: when the honorable governor retires, make him chief lobbyist of your trade association.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to set up a massive multi-player VR game that kept both guards and inmates harmlessly slaughtering one another in a massively incarcerated version of Call Of Duty?

Wow, these guys are a piece of work. Mercenary style training with less than lethal alternatives. Not sure about these pellets, but I can honestly say I’ve been hit with a bean bag round from a distance and it hurt like fucking hell. I’ve heard at close range they can kill. I hope these new measures are better than the old.

(If you’re wondering, it was at a protest during occupy)

Rubber bullets have been around for a long time, and they’re still as bad (or worse) than bean bag grounds.

Ugh, glad I never had the chance to feel those first hand then. I’ve heard of them, but never seen them actually used.

Y’know, they call things like these less than lethal alternatives, but they can still kill pretty easily. It’s a bit worrying.

    What could possibly go wrong?

*head explodes actually thinking about what could possibly go wrong*

Rikers is comically bad at civil rights violation and officer abuse and yet someone in power/control believes this is a good idea? Damn
