    Despite the controversy, when Walter Williams Washington passed away in December 1959, he was hailed across the nation as the last surviving veteran of the Civil War.

      I think what happened is that a young girl married one guy who lived a long time, and did so for the benefits.

      Actually, no. The oldest living veteran of the Confederate War is 170 (this is in dispute since some sources claim 165 and some 172).

      This is after the previous oldest living veteran of the Confederate War recently died.

    This weekend I was chatting with a friend. We’re both white moms in our 30s/40s. The conversation turned to the Black Lives Matter movement and she apparently believes in All Lives Matter. She also said she’s not yet sure if she’s voting for Trump or Clinton. I’m just astounded but shouldn’t be. She lives about an hour away in a very white, very Republican area. I don’t believe she has much exposure to the world at large outside of her bubble.

    I still respect her as a mother and as a friend but I’ve lost some respect for her as an intelligent human. I tried to explain that there is a “too” that is part of #blacklivesmatter. But I don’t think she takes me seriously and sees me as just a silly liberal.

    So frustrating.

      Yeah, I’ve run into that too. A friend on FB who I had to silently “defriend” (they now allow you to stop seeing their posts and vice versa while remaining “friends”). Anyone who can’t grasp BLM as wanting to be included and not elevated higher than anyone else is arm’s length-material. That stuff taints any further conversations.
