It’s really nice that DeRay could show up to get his name in all the headlines. Yes, DeRay, and a bunch of anonymous nobodies, got arrested.

He’s famous (and even moreso today, which was certainly the entire point for him), and the rest are, naturally, nobodies.

Blocking traffic is very stupid and protesters should be arrested everytime they do it.

According to WHAM, the situation is much more egregious than how it is summarised in this article.

A group of reporters, including some from other media organizations, was standing in the street recording a woman who was loudly voicing her concerns. Police approached and arrested the woman. The group of reporters then moved to the sidewalk and continued reporting live via Facebook. Without warning, 13WHAM reporters Carlet Cleare and Justin Carter were handcuffed by officers and led away. Carlet and Justin were the only African American journalists in the group.

And, before anyone attempts to say “but, what about x/y/or z?!?!!”, please note that both the chief and mayor have issued public apologies.

If only black guys were arrested, how come the article shows a Twitter photo from Mark Armstrong of a WHITE journalist getting arrested?

Because that photo is from a protest in Baton Rouge and WHAM is a station for Rochester, New York where there was a different protest?

I think you left out the worst part of WHAM’s statement:

Yeah Gawker is leaving out a ton of HUGE details from this article - like a link to the Periscope video that shows DeRay noting his location of being well inside the line and out of the traffic right exactly when he was tackled to the ground. We all watched it happen... At least this time when we watched the victim of the police attack is still alive.

I think Gawker does this so the racist trolls can have a circle jerk of hate in their comment threads.

You’d think after the outpouring of national support after Dallas police would want to parley that goodwill into some meaningful change. Guess not.

What gets me is the arrogance. These officers know they're being filmed - and were likely briefed about being careful lest they make the department look bad - but they don't even blink. They are wholly convinced that they ARE The Law, so they don't care who sees it.

Why wouldn’t they be arrogant? Average white people have made it clear that they are perfectly comfortable with this kind of behavior so long as this behavior is directed at POC and not them. Black humanity is only conditional on whether or not they approve of (or have use for) the Black person in question. People know better than to say this outright but what conclusion should someone come to when every time the police kill Black people and they come up with 15 million reasons why they think these killings are just fine.

If someone is intentionally blocking traffic, it is the duty of the officer to arrest them to clear the way. Now, one could argue that they should just ignore the minor offenses in front of them, fine. But to imply the cops did anything wrong here by arresting law breakers ridiculous.

    Two things here:

    1. They certainly have a right to protest...but that right doesn’t include block major highways, roads or interstates.

    2. Are we really giving fucks about Edward Snowden tweets now?

I saw the video of his arrest. When he was arrested he wasn’t obstructing traffic, he was walking and filming. The rest of the group were allowed to continue on their way, so if he was obstructing, then so were they, but he was the only one taken.

Exactly. This was a targeted arrest. They knew who he was and they wanted to take him out.

The officer even shouted at him, then verbally identifies DeRay by his bright shoes and saying specifically “you’ve been flagged!” and less then 30 seconds later he is tackeld to the ground. They knew exactly who he is.

Black Lives Matter is a race-based terrorist organization. They should all be arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism.

And you seem to have a very loose understanding of the phrase “Black Lives Matter” since apparently only those very few black lives taken by law enforcement officers matter while the vast majority of black lives that are taken by other black people don’t matter. Because that doesn’t fit your white-hating narrative, does it? I’d go on but I don’t wish to devote any more time to a vile piece of shit who condones the cold-blooded murder of law enforcement officers who were simply carrying out their duties.
