To everyone repeating the tired truism that “violence isn’t the answer,” take a moment to think about the fact that everyone already agrees with you, and that the reason it came to this is because—right or wrong—it’s the natural fucking conclusion when civil order breaks down. I don’t like seeing cops murdered any more than the next guy, but I’m smart enough to recognize that it’s the natural result of complete and utter dysfunction in law enforcement. Yes, people are eventually going to fight back. They aren’t just going to sit and take it. So if we are interested in seeing less of this type of violence, we cannot just be content to repeat tired mantras, as if they are unimpeachable cures all by themselves. We have to commit to imposing a genuine change of culture upon law enforcement, nationwide.

It’s not just law enforcement, dude. Pick a group and I’ll show you a radical element in that group that advocates violence. It’s human nature, and it’s up to everyone to endeavor to be smarter than that.

It’s not just law enforcement, dude. Pick a group and I’ll show you a radical element in that group that advocates violence.

And those “elements” get all of the motivation they need to act when nothing is done about the root problem. If you don’t understand that the root problem here is police violence, then I have nothing more to say to you.

The bottom line is, it’s stupid to walk around in the world thinking that being “right” will fix things all on its own. If problems remain in place, some shit is just destined to happen, whether it’s right or wrong. We can sit there and preach an easy line about it, or we can actually work to correct the underlying problem so it doesn’t happen again.

This is the end of #BLM as a social movement. We are watching its death in real time. There really isn’t any argument. Any goodwill, moral high ground or mass sympathy BLM had just bled out onto the streets of Dallas last night.

Sure the shooters weren’t ‘officially’ parts of BLM, but b/c BLM is headless, ‘nothing’ can really be called a BLM plan. But the shooters were clearly inspired by BLM. This parallels the shooting of Gabby Giffords by Jared Loughner in 2011 that marked the end of Sarah Pailin’s career and marked a distinct detente in overall GOP/tea party rhetoric. Except that what is happening in Dallas is exponentially worse.

A shooting like this is the end result of a social movement evolving away from its original goal and into a religion, where the ‘pure’ are the most virtuous. The tea party had that problem a few years back and BLM just had its wake up call last night.

The single smartest thing that pro-police reform and pro-criminal justice activists can do is to step away from the hostile, divisive, aggressive, shitheaded ’fuck the police’ and ‘white silence is white culpability’ message and towards a conciliatory, productive partnership between activists, the community and law enforcement of all races. As much as progressives HATE it, it might be the time for #AllLivesMatter to be used in a unifying way. But where we go from here is about human lives, not progressive purity tests.

The single dumbest thing that can come of this is rationalizing Dallas as something that is deserved by the police or ‘the end result of centuries of [insert whatever]’. I’m not holding out hope b/c my Facebook feed, which is full of dems/liberals/progressives, is demonstrating the same level of idiotic rationalizations as the GOP did in the wake of the Giffords shooting.

I agree with all of this.

But whites do need to call out the hateful rhetoric on places like Briebart. It’s absolutely crazy over there (the comments).

This cop killer is a lot like Dylan Roof. Both were “upset” over the race-focused groups they sympathized with, and both decided that a more violent means was necessary to get a point across. This is what hateful rhetoric ultimately leads to — cray crays going on shooting sprees.

Brown said, police deployed a robot carrying a bomb, which they detonated, killing the suspect.

This seems...exceptional. Has this ever happened before, outside of, I don’t know, a war zone?

I’m guessing that it was to detonate any IEDs he had on him (he claimed to have IEDs), and wasn’t done with the purpose of killing him.

Dallas Police Department Was Posting Pictures of Peaceful Protesters Before Shooting Started

I’ve heard several times from people in Dallas that knows that the DPD has made some strides in enacting community policing and working with groups like BLM to help foster some sort of communication between the police and the public. These shooters wanted to destroy that.

The Dallas PD are actually one of the best in the country. Excessive force complaints are down from 150 in 2009 to just over 1 dozen in 2015.

This isn’t a terrorist attack. Terrorists don’t pick hard targets. Black #BLM sympathizers who want to start a race war do. Just like Dylan Roof.

Funny how the black community, the latino community, the Asian community, the muslim community, the native American community. We’re all “communities” that apparently are all mentally linked and just exist as amorphous groups. So anything I do is representative of my group.

But yet, there’s no such thing as the “white community”, all actions of white people (especially white men) are individuals given the benefit of the doubt, and judged on their merits.

But nope, no such thing as institutionalized racism.

We’re pretty sure the guy is lying about being alone, right? I mean, Dallas PD is currently saying there were 4 different snipers, and we know that at least one person was firing from above the first floor, yet video clearly shows one suspect on the first floor of a building.

It’s possible in the panic literally all of that was wrong, of course.

I thought they had three suspects in custody? That suspect definitely did not act alone. I can’t imagine that to be the case. This was too planned out (or I should say, appears that way).

Sounds like there was more than one shooter, that doesn't necessarily mean this guy was not acting alone.
