At first, I was like “wait, your first thought is to live stream this?” Then I looked outside my own white skin pigmentation and realized this is the body camera footage that would inevitably get “lost” or wouldn’t have happened due to “technical difficulties.” I get it.

I was thinking that was damn brilliant thinking in a stressful situation. She could get word out to her list, and it wouldn't be lost if her phone got smashed.

    Dear Cops:

    1) 99.9% of people are not trying to and won’t kill you

    2) If you are afraid someone is going to kill you at work, you are not cut out to be a police officer. Quit now and look for another job

American police are trained to treat the people they serve as a threat. That's why this kind of thing happens so often. In Utah, police killings are the second highest cause of homicide. There are more police killings in Utah than gang killings.

It sounds like that cop knew he fucked up. Is he cry-yelling?

It’s weird that she pronounces her boyfriend “dead” while he’s still moving.

This woman is sitting in the car while her boyfriend dies next to her and she had the guts to call the cop out calmly and get it on film.

Meanwhile, Lethal Barney Fife, Mr. Protect and Serve, is crying and screaming.

I don’t know, I just feel like I’d rather see photos of Philando Castile alive and with friends and family than dying or dead in the bloodied front seat of a car with a cop still pointing a gun at him and threatening to shoot his girlfriend while a little girl is sitting in the back seat. It doesn’t really help, I know, but somehow it just seems important to see him enjoying life in order to understand what his loss means to so many people who knew him well, and I mean that beyond just the political implications. A few hours ago, he was a just a guy riding in a car with a broken tail light. He should be home in bed right now.

This is insane; that cop is freaking out because he KNOWS he fucked up.

There’s nothing to indicate these people weren’t completely complying with that cop’s commands.

Agree. Assuming he told he really did tell the cop that he was in possession of a legally owned firearm (or for purposes of a car stop, any firearm), he should have slowed things down. Ask where the gun is. Ask him to keep his hands visible. Instruct him, clearly, do not make any sudden movements. Have driver opened the door And take gun from his person. Then proceed.

This is so infuriating and sickening! Our police are out of control murderers! WTF is going on?!!@#$%^& Have they no training? No compassion for human life? They get the drop on another man, literally they’ve got a gun pointed at him, ask him to do something, man complies and then the cop shoots to forking KILL? What kind of procedure is that?

They get a man ON THE GROUND FACE DOWN and shoot him in the back? Multiple times? Fruitvale Station anyone?

My dad was a lawyer back in the 70s-80s and I recently read a letter from him where he relays an incident of police brutality from the newspaper. My dad asks if the police had no other choice but to use lethal force in the situation described in the article. It was obvious the police DID have another choice but went straight for SHOOT DEAD instead. My dad always cautioned us about cops.

This cowardly murdering by our police officers HAS GOT TO STOP in every city around the country. My heart and prayers go out to this victim’s family and friends tonight. I’m so sorry and I can’t imagine how they must feel. This is SO WRONG!

About 300 black men, 600 white men and 150 Hispanics are killed by police each year. That's about 3 per day. Only a few of these incidents become major media stories. So it's a much bigger problem than people realize.

Time and time again, this country shows that it doesn’t value Black people. The list of things for which some of us have lost lives is absurd, to say the least, and would not exist if it happened to White people.

And before anyone starts in with that #AllLivesMatter bullshit, stop it. When #alllives are being thrown away and vilified postmortem in the manner that Black lives are, THEN you can start touting that hashtag. No one is saying that all police officers are horrible. No, we just want the percentage of police who might be unfit for their job of protecting and serving to stop approaching situations with a “shoot first, ask questions later” mentality. If you think that body cams and cell phone footage keep police afraid of doing their jobs for fear of having their conduct picked apart (The Ferguson Effect is what some call it), then ask yourself if you think that it is the job of the police to kill Black people and justify it at a later date.

Dylann Roof went with intent to kill Black people and they arrested him alive and bought him food. Alton Sterling was already subdued and the police shot him. Philando Castile was communicating with the officer and got shot while the cop yells things that are more to soothe his conscience than anything else.

The cop who shot Philando Castile left him slumped over while they arrested his girlfriend with their child in the car. The NY Daily News is showing pictures of Alton Sterling lying dead. Some say that people need to see what is happening to be affected. Folks were not affected by Emmett Till, Rodney King, Trayvon Martin,....I’m too tired to list any more names and we could be here for a while.

    I am just fucking tired.

They certainly have their immediate troubles, but they have been callous about black bodies for years now. I know they think they are trying to shock and awe us with the brutality of the deaths, but they would never, EVER objectify white victims the same way.
