God Help Me: I think Donald Trump has the better argument here.

Now, knowing that this image was a re-posting from an anti-semetic site, I’m not saying that the people who created the image didn’t intend to draw the allusions that are being drawn between a Star of David and piles of cash. I get it. But, minus that connection, in the caccum in which most people saw the ad, I think that to see the image and draw some connection to some international bankers, jewish conspiracy is just nutterz. And probably pretty racist.

I just don’t think there was any in the use by the Trump campaign. I think they should have paid more attention to where the image came from instead of going “ooh, that’s neat, lets send that shit out into the world with an implied endorsement.” But that is what happens when you have a bunch of amatuer trolls running a campaign.

When I saw the ad, I did not draw any sort of racist connection. I saw piles of money, because, “corruption.” And I saw Sheriff’s star, because, “criminal” and “justice.” I wouldn’t even cross my mind that seeing piles of money and a six-pointed star I “should” see some attack against Jews.

Further, people got upset, and he took it down, and replaced it. That is a good thing: that is what a responsible campaign would do. It is completely unfair (and disallowed in a court of law) to use that fact that he corrected the perceived wrong as evidence that there was a wrong done in the first place.

There are much more salient reasons to dislike Mr. Trump. Lets stay in that world, ok? I don’t like having to defend stupid against even more stupid.

Why would you give them any benefit of the doubt at all on this?

The image wasn’t posted in a vacuum, and the people Trump was trying to appeal to knew exactly what dog whistle was saying. That’s the whole point. There’s simply no way that a campaign that’s repeatedly reached out to white supremacists, republished their memes, etc. accidentally republished another one.

This was on purpose, and its message was very clear to the antisemites that it was intended to appeal to.

It was a dog whistle for the anti-semite faction of his base. And the fact that his surrogates are apologizing, but he is not confirms that and Its fucking disgusting.

And, ya know, if my non-Jewish 10-year-old was drawing stars of David all over the place, I might ask them why they were doing it...

It looks nothing like a sheriff’s star which has little circles at each point, also it was superimposed on piles of cash. Are sheriffs known for having hordes of cash around. Don’t think so.

No, it’s definitely a sheriff’s star. I remember seeing pictures of all of the people deputized in occupied Poland.

The real issue isn’t even that they did it. They’re dicks, they do dickish shit, as expected.

The issue is whether they think that WE think that an entire team that has performed hundreds of stupid little antics like this over this election season are all totally innocent, and simply making honest mistakes. Over and over and over. That there are not a bunch of misogynistic, homophobic, racist people behind the scenes pulling the strings and pulling stuff like this Star of David crap and you know...just doing what comes naturally to them.

Mostly it’s just annoyingly insulting. It’s like...just own up to it. Your extremely dumb followers are not gonna drop you for it, and the rest of the world already hates you, so...not really anything to lose there.

I was wondering when the “I’m not the racist. You people who point this out are the REAL racists” was going to come out.

Ah, yes. Or, as Aristotle notably called it in his Rhetoric, the “I know you are but what am I” stratagem.

It was only a matter of time. That seems to be the go-to all the time... “If I say something offensive about another race, it’s fine. If you mention it, you’re a racist.”

Wasn’t the original image, including the star and the picture of Hillary, taken directly from a white supremacist site? The Trump campaign didn’t create the image themselves, did they?

It was posted to a white supremacist board, I believe shortly after being tweeted out from a twitter account following a bunch of “white genocide” blathering Twitter acocounts.

So, yeah. There’s no fucking doubt about where it originally came from. They’re either winking or inept. Pick your poison.

Between Pierson’s “This is personable” and Trump’s “This is racial profiling,” I’m convinced no one on that team actually knows what words mean. They just flip open a dictionary and pick the first thing their finger lands on that sounds interesting.

So make them put it back, Donnie-boy. I’m sure they saved the original. It’s really easy. Just click the image button, select the old one, and it’ll overwrite the one that’s there now. Your team has done it once already, so they know how. Couldn’t be simpler. Go on. We’ll wait.

Maybe put your old campaign poster with the (oopsie!) Wehrmacht soldiers in it back up while you’re at it.

His tortured logic has reached Cultural Revolution / North Korean dictator levels of ridiculousness. I shudder to think how a hundred years hence, our descendants will peddle the vintage propaganda left over from Dear Leader Trump’s administration at a makeshift flea market on top of the rubble that was once called Union Square, wondering how it all went so wrong.

Even worse, it’s with two “r”s. Barron. Trump named his son after a financial publication. At least he didn’t name him Financial Times, I guess.
