I don’t think that Trump is personally an anti-Semite, but it’s so painfully obvious that he’s courting the bigot vote that any members of the various minority groups he has targeted who nevertheless support his presidential bid should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

ETA Anyone who supports Trump should be ashamed, but particularly those he has targeted.

Anyone who chooses to profit from anti-semitism, racism, sexism or homophobia is no better than an anti-semite, racist, sexist or homophobe. Someone selling slaves can’t look down their nose at a slaveowner: both profit off human misery. So Trump is no better than the vilest of his supporters because he actively caters to them.

I don’t think that Trump is personally an anti-Semite,

My hunch is that he is totally anti-Semitic (and bigoted against most other groups as well) but probably says things like “You gotta get a good Jew lawyer” and thinks it’s a complement. I also have no problem believing that he is great to Kushner and his family as he likely sees them as some of “the good ones.”

You can be a bigot and still be warm and friendly toward at least some of the people you are bigoted against.

Maybe I should tell Kurson about my grandmother. She won’t even watch Mel Gibson movies. Seriously, she yelled at me because I put on What Women Want thinking we’d just have a nice quiet evening watching a chick flick together. So much tsuris. It was meshuggah.

Your grandmother is a self-hating yid. We can’t judge Mel Gibson on the things he said when he was drunk. Or the movie he made blaming The Jews for killing Christ. He has a Jew Lawyer who he treats fairly well and I heard he once had sex with a Jewess. He passes the Kurson Test.

Let’s judge candidates on what they actually do and say, not what our feelies tell us is in their hearts. Say and publish racist/anti-semitic/homophobic/misogynistic remarks? Then it doesn’t matter what your friends and family and spokespeople say they believe you to be.

I have a friend who would gladly and compassionately help a suffering person in front of him no matter what that person’s identity might be. This friends also regularly talks about wanting to get all Muslims out of America, about how the Jews control everything and about how feminists and SJWs are keeping him from getting a job/getting laid/succeeding in life. I’m comfortable calling him a horrible racist despite his willingness to help people in need.

Back to Hillary. She’s the bought puppet of the American Jewish pro-Zionist Israel lobby. Her backers include Haim Saban, George Soros and Donald Sussman. She’s on the record making numerous obsequious speeches avowing her total undivided support for Israel, a racist apartheid state and top human rights violator, to rich American Jewish contributors.

Is it anti-semitic to point that out? And have a problem with it?

Thank you for that completely unrelated, borderline anti-semitic Hillary/anti-Israel rant. This post has nothing to do about either but good thread jack

Donald totally isn’t anti-Semitic! He loves Jewish people... to count his money.

I’m actually surprised this is the first time people are looking extensively at Trump’s connection to the Kushners. There’s a ton of stuff to be mined there — about Jared, specifically, not even his father. I guess it’s sand in the ocean of Trump’s misdeeds, but I feel like an old-school Gawker piece talking to people who knew Jared in Northern NJ about his politics (a harsher version of the Times article would have a lot of value.

I love the little circle the Rachel Maddow show has shown a few times that potential Trump running mate Chris Christie made his name by prosecuting the father of Trump’s now son-in-law.

I’ve followed this and while it’s very New York weird, I do appreciate the Observer publishing these opposing views, even if they’re...weird (sorry, only word that comes to mind). As far as the Donald being anti-Semitic, I suppose it could be up for debate. But I will say this (as an opinion), while most (even supporters) would agree that Hillary is not trustworthy, I think most would agree similarly that Trump is not credible. I don’t think he’s ever given enough time or effort of thought to be an anti-Semite. That’s higher level bigotry.

Suppose this up for debate it’s called the election of our next POTUS America wants one who tells it as he see’s it. We are tired of pathological lies & blatant non-reporting & editing facts

As a Jew I gotta say, some Jews have funny ideas about anti-Semitism. I don’t think anyone out there thinks Trump secretly hates Jews. But I’m pretty sure Trump admires their business and financial acumen, believes them to be clubby and untrustworthy but good lawyers and doctors, fine to do business with but you gotta watch them like a hawk, etc. I’m sure Trump thinks black people are just great at basketball, too, and natural comics. Trump is a genre thinker. He could perform his grandkid’s bris himself and I would still believe he holds dated stereotypes about Jews, but not necessarily that he hates them.

More important, what’s at stake here isn’t Trump’s personal beliefs about Jews, it’s his willingness to rile up the anti-Semitic portions of his base by dog whistling to them. It doesn’t matter what he believes in his heart of hearts. Look at what he tweets (and re-tweets) and what he fails to disclaim.

But then this jamoke thinks the BDS movement is anti-Semitic, so obviously his Shylock radar is broke af.
