He’s honestly nothing like his father-in-law and neither is his wife. Between them there is almost hope for redeeming both greedy, awful legacies.

Many children have taken principled stands against their parents views. Ivanka could have done this, or simply maintained dignified silence. She’s not as obnoxious or such an obvious asshole, but she persists in defending his indefensible statements. The fact that she continues to support and enable him suggests that she agrees with him.

Personally I give her a little leeway because parents, but this is a fair assessment. I want to believe she’s doing it in part just to protect the Trump brand, since she’s stuck with the name...

Both Donald and Jared are also lifelong Democrats, and former Clinton supporters. Imagine that.

That’s a lie. Donald Trump has switched political affiliation numerous times throughout his adult life. If you count up the number of years he’s been a Republican or Independent, it’s more than the number of years he’s been a Democrat.

      Stop lying.

In January 2007, Kushner acquired what may be his most famous building, 666 Fifth Avenue...

And he still owes a mortal debt.

And in March of last year, Kushner paid $131.5 million for a portfolio of 16 apartment buildings that the seller had bought about two years prior for $73 million—an 80 percent increase. According to RCA, overall pricing for Manhattan apartments only increased by 58 percent in that time.

Eh, I don’t know that I would put too much stock in this being a bad deal because of RCA’s price appreciation calculations. Multifamily price indexes are weird and sort of not useful. The “cap rate” quoted in the linked article is maybe a bit more useful and at 4.1% on rent regulated NYC properties, it’s a not shockingly low number, given how hot NYC real estate was at the time and still is.

But besides all of that, he isn’t orange enough.

That’s a good point, and one that my broker friend just pointed out to me (we’re working on a project that would tangentially involve Kushner).

But I’m older and wiser, so I understand something I would never have imagined, let alone determined to be true: my time is more wisely spent listening to a Ringo Starr solo album than studying the New York real estate world.

Your time, and pretty much everyone else’s for that matter, would be more wisely spent listening to nails grating on a chalkboard than studying New York real estate.

I strongly suspect Trump is trying to set up Jared and Ivanka to be the JFK and Jackie of the family. I won’t be the least surprised if one of them runs for senator in the next decade (and I don’t think it matters which one it is, they seem to be a Clinton-esque package deal.)

I’d be shocked if Trump is “setting up” anything, period. He doesn’t exactly strike me as a forward thinker — giving up a modestly lucrative entertainment empire in favor of cavorting with bigoted right-wingers?

Making that sacrifice makes sense if he’s doing it to create a political future for his kid and her husband (who seems to be the favorite son, if by marriage.) I am not remotely certain about it, but I almost feel like he’s purposely setting up his heirs to look like the “reasonable, sensible Trumps.”
