“But if you give her your vote now, you’re never going to be able to negotiate with her neoliberal side of the party, and you won’t be able to extract concessions to move the country left. Which is why, if you let Trump win this time, the Democrats are going to woo you and concede stuff to you in order to gain your vote at the next elections.”

Near-exact quote from my academic-world Bernie fans, who, in their wisdom, are willing to wait many more years for the right women to fill these spots. That that’s because contemporary, incarnated women are not the right women. These folks would vote for women, but they’re simply waiting for the right ones to arrive.

It was impressive how fast Elizabeth Warren went from “their one woman friend” to a total traitor. Now they’ve glommed onto Jill Stein to prove they aren’t sexist.

Yay! Also, she is on my list of people I would like to have a drink with.

I mean, okay, Ruth Bader Ginsberg is first, obviously. She is second. OR! They could come drinking with me together. That’s cool.

Can we stop with this Bernie Bro bullshit? I was a hardcore Bernie supporter. Hell, I even skirted on the crazy side for a week or so. However, I brought myself back to just being a supporter of him and disowning all those “Bernie or Bust” people. “Bernie or Bust” people sound so moronic now. I am now a solid Clinton supporter, but I still have a soft spot for Bernie. If you are acting like a dumbass (no matter who you support), I will call you out on it. People like Beet Arthur are doing shit in bringing people together. It’s all about beating Trump by a landslide. I will accept nothing less.

I get your feelings here, but it’s been pretty damned difficult to deal with the sexism, day in and day out. I’m glad you’re helping women and people of color retain their rights; it will help you, too, of course.

PS. Beets is right. Just watch. Seriously. Watch the commenters.

I don’t believe I was ever asked to bring anyone together to anything - it’s not my job (also I don’t care). If you don’t like what I say, you are free to ignore me. Also, some of us would love it if any of you bros actually talked back to the sexist/racist asshole who are still bernie bros. You’d be a lot more legitimate if you did.

Cue the bros outraged that she’s hiring considering gender and not ‘the best person for the job’.

sigh....may this be the year more guys understand how much harder a woman’s path is to get hired for the same job as a man.

They always crack me up with that “best person” bullshit like the women would be just totally randos off the street. “Hey? You a girl? Good. You’re Secretary of Defense now.” Of course, bros have to be outraged because it is what they have.

It reminds me of that time when RBG responded to the question “When will there be enough women on the supreme court?” and she said when there is 9. It caused a mild uproar that women thought we deserved more than half. Men have had more than half for, what, over 200 years? Women take a third for a couple years, and everyone loses their shit.

The entire piece by the Times is worth a read, it’s a great look at how she would approach her first 100 days and also just a reasonable take on her in general.

She is so focused on getting shit done. She is willing to talk to Republicans (the reasonable ones, anyways). That is how governing is supposed to work. I’m really pumped.

In conjunction with the mini-clusterfuck that was Bill being a moron and talking to Lynch on that plane, this just makes me believe more and more that while Bill has always needed Hillary, she has never needed him, not when it comes down to the nuts and bolts of getting things done. He better not fuck this up for her.

Totally. It’s a lil bit House of Cards, but male pols need a wifey so people don’t ask questions (hearing me Lindsey??), but I have a suspicion that HRC could have gotten to where she is now without Bill. Certainly helped her take a few shortcuts, but she is focused like a laser beam and I admire the shit out of it.

I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted someone to be president so much in my life. Like, I really wanted Obama to, but for mostly symbolic reasons (from the historicity of being the first African American president to the true power of his rhetoric and ideals... I mean, that “red state/blue state/united states” line STILL brings tears to my eyes 8 years later). Here, I look at her plans for the first 100 days and I’m like the living embodiment of grabby hand. GIVE IT TO ME. GIVE HALF WOMAN CABINET. GIVE ME INFRASTRUCTURE JOBS. GIMME HILLARY GETTING THE GOP DRUNK TO GET HER WAY. GIVE. IT. TO. ME. NOW.

It drove me crazy that Obama had to spend so much political capital on health care his first term; that and the frankly actionable obstructions in Congress just really roadblocked what he could have done if given the chance. But Hills dealt with health care back in the nineties and has the quarter century of connections in her pocket that could really get shit moving.

Also, and I hate to say it, but better to acknowledge than ignore...they won’t like her being in the Oval, they’ll find it disgusting that a woman is President, but there won’t be a significant portion of them who truly believe it’s illegitimate.

And, to all who have responded predictably, I’m not going to un-grey or engage. Women make up just over half of the population of this country, but historically have made up less than 25% of cabinet positions. There are quite literally thousands of incredibly well-qualified women from which to choose. Saying that you’re going to level the playing field and make things fair for a change is not sexist.
