He’s polling pretty damn high for a third party candidate. Some polls have him getting into double digits. It’ll be fun to see dumb Republicans blame him for Clinton the way dumb Democrats blame Nader for Bush.

Johnson is right about Trump unfortunately Libertarians belief in classical economics and the idea that only governments can be a source of oppression means I can’t take them seriously.

That, a lot of American libertarianism is actually built on racism. It’s basically pulling up the drawbridge after the flood has already started, and you created the flood. Libertarians reactions to the effects of systematic on black and brown people is basically: “Well, tough shit. Sorry.”

you can probably add the pictures of about 35-40 additional presidents while you’re at it, though Jackson may have been the worst.

Honestly I wish the guy good look on getting into the debates. I've always thought that any candidate on enough state ballots to be able to hypothetically win should automatically be invited but whatever.

Get Gary Johnson and Jill Stein up on stage with Trump and Clinton, we might have an interesting election for a change...

Seems unlikely, given that the last time Stein tried to show up for presidential debates, she straight-up got arrested. Democracy!

Yep, the racism seems pretty obvious even to some of Trump’s reluctant supports, but still we can expect every thread about it to include some variation on “wait, how is [stupid obvious example of racism] actually racist? This is political correctness run amok.”

For some of these pundits and armchair surrogates, nothing short of a white hood and a torch seems to count (and not even that if it’s a retweet).

Actually I’ve seen many of his supporters begin admitting that “he is racist,” BUT that he’s “on the right track for fixing America’s problems. Unlike ‘Shillary.’” So that’s where we are now. Millions of people ready to vote for a fascist, tantrum-throwing, would-be-dictator baby-man... because they like that he said something dramatic and pretends he’s going to fix things.

      Islam isn’t a race, it’s a religion; not racist.

      Mexico isn’t a race, it’s a country; not racist.

If you can cloak your racism such that it requires considering more than one category or concept simultaneously to identify it as racism, there are vast numbers of people who will never acknowledge that it is racism. I am starting to think that there are people who just aren’t capable of comprehending anything at all beyond a certain level of conceptual complexity, and maybe they really believe that people like Trump aren’t racist.

Shouldn’t Libertarian Gary Johnson have faith in the free market to make sure Trump’s excesses are in check, therefore his presidential run is unnecessary? I mean if he has faith in the free market...

A Libertarian shouldn’t run for president, cause more choice somehow violates free market principles? Somehow free speech contradicts a free market?

      I don’t get it.

I mean, technically the free market is speaking and Trump’s businesses are reeling, so that’d actually be a pretty compelling argument.

“He has said 100 things that would disqualify anyone else from running for president but doesn’t seem to affect him,” said Johnson on Sunday.

For the millionth time: In a Republican primary. I think polls have shown it most definitely has affected him in the general where most other Republicans would having polling averages tied or slightly ahead of Clinton.

Also, and alternative title: Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson willing to call a piece of shit a piece of shit.

Not just any GoP primary: a GoP primary in a year when they didn’t have any strong candidates. Those attempts at pushing Jeb!, or Rubio, or even Cruz were weak as hell. You can’t put up such a poor showing for establishment candidates and expect to have any control of the process.

...and in a field so massive that 35-45% pluralities were sufficient in a lot of winner-take-all states. I suspect cutting back on WTA will be one of the ways the establishment over corrects for Trump’s victory, since he probably wouldn’t have secured a pre-convention majority without those.

      Heh. Well, kinda yeah.

Johnson is one of those political oddities with whom it’s possible to really wholeheartedly agree on some things, while finding his positions truly vile on others - and this will likely be the case no matter what one’s own inclinations and beliefs. Yet, given his basis in theory for all of this, he is internally consistent, personally.

I think he’s a bit of a crackpot in a sort of classically New Mexican way, but you know what, I’d love to have lunch with the man and talk about everything under the sun.

He also suggested poll takers mention his name before Clinton and Trump so he could get a 5% bump to 15% to be able to participate in national debates. Uh that would have no effect on the numbers, he’s an interesting candidate but I don’t know about him

Methodology like order of names absolutely affects poll results. Even just asking between two options, they flip back and forth with each respondent.
