      Juniors volleyball has its fair share of predatory coaches, as well. I can think of four that I came across as a player and a coach. For two of them, it was basically an “open secret” that they would sleep with players.

    Talk about burying the Lede. World Volleyball powerhouse Cuba lost to Finland! Certainly these poor, dear young men have suffered enough and must be experiencing deep emotional trauma.

      It was the ones who weren’t arrested, presumably the non-rapists, that lost. They don’t deserve the sarcasm. It would be interesting to see how all team rankings would change if the rapists were out of the picture.

      You jest, but point in fact, the loss occurred when they were down three players because of the detentions. I can hear on the horizon the bellowing whinges of a thousand affronted Anglophone dudes who’ve never watched men’s volleyball in their life but are now uberfans bewailing the Politically Correct Police State cum Witches’s Coven that allows something as trivial as a rape to interfere with Almighty Sport and the Important Futures of these thick-thighed, modern-day heroes.

      Yup! I mean I care about my sports teams winning to a stupid degree like most sports fans do but damn people. They’re not gods and should not be treated as some godly figure. Sports are great but in the end, they’re really not that big of a deal, if you think rationally. Certainly don’t deserve to be valued as godly figures and they certainly aren’t worth more than safety of other humans.

      I think its more just male entitlement.

      The same thing shows up when any group of guys manage to get away from ‘female supervision’ to ‘bond’ and get abusive.

      Sports

      Military

      Business

      Clergy

      Bands

      Cops

      Frats

      ...etc

      Toxic masculinity is a serious problem. Hero worship seems to make it worse.

      Do all athletes need to wear body cams like cops.

      Also props to Finland for getting a rape call and actually do something about it ... like it takes years for anything to happen in America ... I wonder how much Finland women matter to them? Since Raping an American woman only gets you 4 months in a private jail cell.

        They are now probably offering to plead guilty in return for mandatory 10 year prison sentences. They figure 10 years in a Finnish prison will be more comfortable than life in Cuba.
