Sometimes the best brag is the one where you are a functional adult human and you do things like grocery shop, clean, and not fuck up at work. I can proudly say that that is my brag this week. And with that, here is your Brag Thread! What have you accomplished this week (whether it’s at work, at school, at home, or just meeting a famous person or buying something neat)?

I did not respond to the last dude I was boning who I do not like as a human being even though I want contact with someone a lot. That’s my brag. I am getting better about standing up for myself in regards to relationships!

    BEAUTY THREAD!

(Sorry I’m late. It’s a long day turning into a long night.)

There’s nothing like getting a gross zit in the fold between your nostril and cheek to remind you that you’re human. Yuck.

Well, how is everyone else doing?

My sympathies. Zits are the worst and on this particular spot? Kill it with fire (no, not fire, some acid maybe).

I’ve started double-cleansing today: Burt’s Bees cleansing oil first and the Cetaphil with my Clarisonic. Just once a day. I don’t know if it’ll be too harsh on my skin but I’ve decided to give it a shot for a few weeks and see if it inhibits the Incredible Blackhead Factory (it’s what I call my face).

What I desperately need now is recommendations for a good face sunscreen. Something potent and non-greasy so that my very pale and oily skin can be protected without breaking out. Any suggestions?

This week was a terrible one. My family troubles intensified and Emily got out twice. The first time, she was missing for a while, but she came back and was fine.

Wednesday, my roommate left the door to our balcony deck open and she must have fallen or jumped off the balcony the second time, and landed right on her face. She was missing and I looked for her from midnigt until 2 AM, when I had to give it up for the night. She was home when I finally came back, but her face was bloody and she had to have surgery when the vet opened.

She is recovering, and is on good pain stuff. Her face is all bruised up, though and she is very groggy. She is LOVING wet food life, and I don’t think dry food will ever be acceptible again.

Please send her your love! She has some ways to go before she is totally fine.

Hey hey hey! What’s everyone drinking? I have one more Crispin to finish and then it will be onto La Marca!

I have a date tomorrow! A hang out date! He is coming to see me! I am incredibly excited and anxious about it. I like this guy a lot and we have talked about some stuff that would not normally be covered so early (like how I couldn’t hang out tonight, because of this), but we haven’t met yet.

The guy I was seeing for most of the last year who moved across the country texted me yesterday to tell me he was diagnosed with diabetes. And it hit me harder than I thought. Partially because I am a raw bundle of nerves and emotions right now, partially because the act of him texting me gives me the impression that he finally realized that I did matter to him, that I was a big part of his life. He asked me to call when I had time so we could actually talk about what’s going on. I shouldn’t, but I can’t pretend like I didn’t care about him at one point. Since he is across the country now, there is no worry about becoming emotionally or physically involved again.

By the next SNS I will have taken the GRE. I have talked to most of my family about waiting to start the MBA program until the next trimester. This is going to be full on practice for me. Getting used to the environment and figuring out where I need to focus my study energies.

Everyone be safe and have lots and lots and lots of fun this weekend!

Please remember to be considerate of your neighbors this Independence Day weekend in the USA. While you may love fireworks, there may be a combat veteran suffering from PTSD close by. Try to remember that loud noises can scare people (and pets), especially late at night.

Yes! Thank you for mentioning this.

Also keep a close eye on your furry friends since all of the scary noise and commotion can make them more inclined to bolt.

    Garden thread ☘🌿🌲

Our 22 lb potato harvest. My Irish ancestors would be proud. And the first of the gladiolus. Alternatively produced exactly 5, count em 5 spring peas . Usually get about a hundred. Next year will cover the crop immediately. The birds eat the seeds and they don’t like strong sun so we usually cover them with a light weight cloth. Didn’t this year. Lesson learned. What ya growing Jezzies ? And happy summer. I love July 4 weekend. ❤️❤️❤️

How many potato plants did you have? My two plants, really small garden, aren’t ready to harvest yet, but I’m really excited about how well the potato plants are doing this year. I also have too many tomato plants, and this year there will be no blossom end rot! We got the calcium spray and we’ve been spraying them once a week, so far, so good.

I dreamed that a sink hole or something opened up under my mom’s brick walkway, which isn’t something that happens in Connecticut, and Kristopher Hivju was there trying to fix it, while my mom asked him about the price of axes in Norway. (Which is totally something my mom would do.)

Boyfriend and I are going to visit his parents for the 4th tomorrow. I love his parents, but they are super freaking Republican. And today boyfriend told me we should start drinking less beer because of calories (coming from the guy who was eating bacon and bread with peanut butter), but I really don’t freaking want to because adulting is stressful and beer makes everything better! Advice on how to get through the next two days, please.

I had a lover's quarrel with the worldLauren Evans
    7/02/16 7:16pm

Support request: I have mentioned in some posts that I am a lawyer and in others that I represent some women inmates in our state’s women’s prison. These women were abused by a guard while the guard who was his partner acted as a look out. The abuse ranged from relatively minor (in a legal sense — name calling) to the major (what you would imagine in a bad dream). Well Friday we had oral argument with the trial judge on the supervisors’ motion to get out of the case — these are the guys who failed to supervise the bad actors and importantly they are the ones the State will pay for so that’s where all the money is (the bad actors got fired and are now destitute so we can get big money from the bad actors but my clients won’t ever collect anything other than satisfaction).

The argument was two hours long but the judge said he would issue a decision on the 11th or 12th of July. The judge seemed intrigued by the State’s arguments on the statute of limitations barring all the claims. That has me really worried. My firm did all the work pro bono, the papers were good, my colleagues did a great job preparing me for the argument, we did our best, and if we lose we will win on appeal.

But I am really stressed about it so positive thoughts/prayers/vibes/wishes/whatevers would really be appreciated, and a reminder to calm down. Thanks.

Reading tea leaves after oral argument is so stressful. You’re doing hard and important work, and it sounds like you had a great handle on the issues. Was this at the motion to dismiss or summary judgment stage? Either way, I’ve seen a lot of § 1983 stuff make it to trial on the strength of detailed allegations and persuasive lawyers. Rooting for you!

Summary judgment so we have done a bunch of depositions and our clients were brilliant.

At argument the State’s lawyer had the gall to say that my clients’ “versions” of events might be suspect because they are criminals. I wanted to scream! They admit that they are in prison because they are criminals! That doesn’t mean that they should be subject to x, y, and z. So frustrating.

I would still put it on sourdough but OKAY I AM CONVINCED IT NEEDS NO CHEESE.

      That tomato looks incredible.

Earlier I had a caprese on French bread with pesto under the tomatoes and fresh mozz, and added some shredded Romaine lettuce for crunch with a bit of mayo atop that. Even with the strong-flavored pesto, tomatoes are so good right now, that remained the star of the sandwich.

That reminds me, I need to order another baguette.
