Seems to be a pretty specific one if you ask me. I mean, those damn Buddhists have been in the news every goddamn day!

Buddhists literally ransacked a mosque in Myanmar like...a week ago. Myanmar, Sri Lanka, etc. have had notable cases of buddhist violence in recent years.

Bangladesh’s economy is dependent on exports to the West, especially textiles, and it’s also relatively stable both politically and economically. This is not the same as an attack in Turkey. This is much closer to an attack in Belgium. The last thing Bangladesh wants is to be part of any antagonism with the West when the West is where their fortune lies. I expect them to be pretty ruthless about figuring out exactly who in their society is a potential threat in the coming weeks... probably at the expense of a lot of human rights.

They’ve had at least one non-Muslim, or progressive Muslim, hacked to death in the street each week, for a while now. I’m not saying their intelligence services are in cohorts with the murderers (as I would say about Pakistan) but I am saying their priorities are not what you’d guess to be.

I don’t think most are defending Islam. What they don’t want is for all Muslims to be blamed for violence carried out by a small percentage of people. They also don’t want to alienate the Muslim allies we need to defeat groups like ISIS. The police officers who were killed in Bangladesh trying to save the hostages were almost certainly Muslims. Most of the people involved in the rescue were Muslims. So both the bad guys and the good guys were Muslims.

Islamic terrorists will keep doing this as long as you keep blaming and attacking Islam as a whole, that’s what they want and it keeps working every single time. Stop getting played by these mother fuckers.

You’re sentiment is right, but this is Gawker. Here, if an off duty cop gets in trouble the headline labels him a cop and the article and comments are overwhelmingly anti-cop as a group. That is, group labeling, for the acts of a few are ok here. The one exception, which pops up time and again (there will definitely be another mass casualty attack in the name of a Islam before there will be another Dylan Roof or POS who killed Walter Scott), is Muslims. I’m not seeing people have to be objective if they don’t want to, but there should be some acknowledgment that we label the groups we don't like and defend the ones here we like. That is Gawker.

So, Hannah, will you be stripping or waiting tables when Ziff Davis throws this site in the shit heap in a few month’s time?

“Alleged” Islamic Militants eh? Exactly what do these people have to do before you can call a fucking spade a spade? Does it physically hurt to be such an obtuse liberal cunt?

Yeah, considering that an official Daesh media group was posting photos from inside the cafe during the attack, it’s probably safe to drop that “alleged.” When Daesh is saying “Hey, look what we’re doing right this very moment,” I think it’s a given that these are definitely Daeshi terrorists.

Bangladesh is seriously fucked up right now. It’s nastier than Egypt before Arab Spring. Shame. I once interviewed an adventurer (old school British gentleman explorer) and he said it was his favourite place, the most beautiful he had ever seen.
