    This is desperation.

It’s completely possible there will be an organized attack in America, which they need to happen to get a disproportionate response from politicians to gin up support and get more followers to come into the fight.

But since they can’t manage that, and none of the crazy guys and gals who’ve done attacks in the U.S., e.g. San Bernardino, Orlando, are “lone wolves”. There attacks are on the same scale as Holmes, who shot up a theatre or that kid who shot up a school. And the reaction to those shootings was more head-scratching (why would you shoot people at your job? what have they got to do with fighting the evil American system?) or dismissal of the shooter as a nut (couldn’t make up his mind if he was pledging Al-Queda or their sworn enemy, ISIL.)

But they can easily attack a place like Bangladesh. The foreigners there for diplomatic, military, or NGO reasons, are easy to spot and easy to make a political point about.

      Yep.

IS has lost approximately 40% of the populated territory it once held in Iraq, and 10-20% of the populated territory it had seized in Syria, according to the US.

They’re also losing revenue sources and fighters. So they’ve basically issued an open invitation online to anyone, anywhere, saying that you can attack anyplace you want to and declare your allegiance to the Islamic State.

They’re not sworn enemies. Al-Queda has openly embraced ISIL more than once; ISIL wasn’t receptive though. They’re certainly not friends. But making the claim “sworn enemies” is preposterous. Individuals of each have fought together and switched alliances at one point or another.

For serious. I keep asking the likely juvenile question of why we cant we just partner with a bunch of other countries and, like, take them out. Get it done. And it’s a serious question. My understanding is that there aren’t that many of them in the absolute.

I am a bangladeshi & I live in Dhaka.since last night, the situation has been horrible.as a country,we fought very hard to keep our country secular.but for the last 2 yrs,the situation has been changing rapidly.Sheikh Hasina has crushed any political opposition in our country.to consolidate her power, she has tried to seek support from our conservative factions, which is bnp’s territory.in addition to religious minorities, secular writers, lgbt activists, the terrorists have killed a antiterror police officer’s wife.this situation is 100% our government’s fault.most of these terrorists are homegrown.they have been radicalized locally.but our government has basically shut their eyes all this time

You have not fought hard enough. The lessons have 1971 have been forgotten, the razakar’s have not been brought to justice (except for a few) and Jamaat gains new supporters every day. The Mukti Bahini shed its blood to give you your country back in 1971 and I am sorry to say that you folks have wasted their legacy.

As of 1:30 EST, the Bangladeshi authorities are reporting that the siege is over and the situation is under control.

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/01/asi...

“In Dhaka, witnesses near the cafe report hearing a fresh round of heavy gunfire after hours of quiet in the area. This came after media reports that police stormed the restaurant on Saturday morning.

Fayad Munaim, who could hear intense gunfire coming from the direction of Holey Artisan Bakery, where gunmen took hostages the night before, said the shots lasted about 10 minutes. Then the barrage stopped.”

No specifics on loss of life or injury. Let’s hope both were minimal.

ETA: Now reports are saying all six gunmen dead, fourteen hostages freed.

“Bangladeshi troops rescued 14 hostages and shot dead six gunmen, ending an hourslong siege at a cafe in Dhaka, army Brig. Gen. Mujibur Rahman said Saturday.”

Let’s hope the casualty numbers end there.

The country’s government nevertheless maintains that neither the Islamic State nor Al Qaeda have terrorist cells within its borders.

The country’s government is hereby invited to skim the regularly scheduled news of secular writers being hacked to death in the street. They might learn something.

They’re not even settling for secularists anymore. Hindus are fast becoming their new favorite targets (http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/02/wor...).

When you’ve got a well-armed country with a high tolerance for collateral damage and a vendetta against ISIS eying you from across the pond, denying a terrorist infestation may seem like the safer bet.

First thing I thought was the Bombay attacks a few years back and it being the same organization. CNN had a really good documnetary on it where they had the communications from the terrorists back to their handlers in Pakistan.

It’s pretty sad to see a nation that didn’t fall for the politicized islam bullshit starting to crumble once again. Here’s hoping ISIS, AQ, and Jamaat get shot in the streets like the dogs they are.

      Really?

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh denounced anyone who criticized religion or expressed their own lack of religious faith in striking terms: “I don’t consider such writings as freethinking but filthy words. Why would anyone write such words? It’s not at all acceptable if anyone writes against our prophet or other religions.”

I’m confused why they’re not assisting the “Rohingya” Islamic colonist/squatters in Buddhist Myanmar. Would seem to be a more appealing religious murder opportunity.

From what little I know about that whole situation it’s possible that they would just kill all Muslims in the country. Myanmar does not seem to care much for them.

They claimed they Orlando attack too until they found out the shooter was gay, then they backed way the fuck off.

I have no idea if ISIS is responsible, but I have a feeling that they’re happy to claim responsibility every single time... for a while, anyway.
