$100 grand seems too low of an amount to sue for considering they slammed a girl suffering from brain tumors head to the ground. Here’s a photo of her during arrest:

Yeah, I didn’t want to make that the header because it’s really graphic, but it’s so important that people know how violent this was.

“Passengers can call ahead of time to learn more about the screening process for their particular needs or medical situation.”

Or you could use words to explain it at the time of the additional screening and listen when a disabled person’s parent and/or caregiver is telling you they have comprehension difficulties.

Or I guess just slam a teenager’s head into the ground like the power-hungry rent-a-cops you are.

Frankly, £100000 sounds a positively modest amount for the trauma in this case. This is horrific, and someone needs to lose their job.

Airport security is a nightmare all over - I remember the woman in Paris screaming at my *blind* companion for carrying a (white) metal cane through the detector and then accidentally going the wrong way, what with being blind and all!

We’re going to the U.S. later this year. To make things more fun, her condition has deteriorated, and now she has to carry a lot of restricted drugs with her. I’m quite anxious.

i’d probably ask for a pat down instead of going through the detectors (i do this anyway out of principle bc screw those body scanners). it may take a bit longer but you wont have to worry about going in and out of detectors and having a cane taken away from you, etc.. when you check in tell the desk agent what’s up and they may have an agent actually escort you to a separate search line and all the way to the gate. good luck :/

Yes, call ahead to the airline and ask for a wheelchair/extra support. It speeds things up considerably and puts you in different queues for immigration/security et al. The only thing to remember is to tip your handler in the US, 5USD is enough.

(I’ve gone from/to the US with a knee injury where I couldn’t stand for long periods and with my mom when she had a broken ankle. No shame in doing it, the wheelchair is so that the handler can move you as fas as possible so they can get more tips. )

I hope you guys have a great trip!

    Jesus Christ, that is awful.

Unless someone is getting genuinely violent in the security line, I can’t imagine a single scenario within your average airport security check point where the TSA would be within their wheelhouse to slam someone on the ground. And to slam her head into the ground? Good lord.

Absolutely, and I might add that $100,000 is not even close to enough. What they should sue for is dismissal of the TSA agents plus a few mil.

Sari Koshetz of TSA released a statement alluding to the incident: “Passengers can call ahead of time to learn more about the screening process for their particular needs or medical situation.”

Or, maybe the TSA goons could act like human beings for a change. It’s time to get rid of the TSA and start all over again.

This. So many people have medical conditions that security should be trained to accommodate people with various needs.

After 17 years of watching her poor daughter’s delicate head treated with kidd gloves through surgery, scans and chemo she had to watch TSA smash it into the ground?

How did she not kill them?

And ableist. They’re basically saying travel is for the able-bodied.

My traveling companion and grandfather will never be able to meet their demands to his comprehension. He wouldn’t know we are traveling the day before, much less think of calling ahead, which is why he always travels with a companion. But a companion is apparently not enough for TSA. It certainly wasn’t enough to keep Hannah Cohen safe and whole.

“Expert traveller” is now TSA Pre-Check (Or Global Entry if you travel overseas a lot) and costs $85 for five years and requires you to voluntarily submit to a FBI background check

TSA throws hella shade. My personal favorite, as one man towards the beginning condescendingly tells the passengers, “We’ve been doing this for 15 years; no surprises here; take out your liquids!” and another barks, “Don’t take anything off or out, simply walk through, this is a new protocol.” And as you try to figure out to whom you should listen, they yell at you for being slow. So pleasant to fly!

Yeah, when I was flying out of Houston last spring, some TSA lady yelled at me and my mom for taking our liquids out because it’s been the rule “for a while” to leave them in. Well, Spring Break came at the end of grad school visitation for me, and I’d spent the previous 4 weekends flying from either Austin or Houston to St. Louis, Madison, Ithaca, and Newark. We all took our liquids out at every single other airport. “Lady, this was not the rule when I was here last goddamn week so quitcherbitchin pls.”
