      I love Bebel Gilberto more than anyone, but I could not hear the dialogue at all in that clip because of the song’s relative volume.

    I am separating from the man whom many of you know as “Felipe” — the man whom I fell in love with at the end of the EAT PRAY LOVE journey.

    So, this is literally “Bye, Felipe”

    He has been my dear companion for over 12 years, and they have been wonderful years. Our split is very amicable. Our reasons are very personal.

    He was willing to LOVE but not EAT. (rimshot)

    Yeah, yeah, I’ll see myself out....

      And this was why I loved The Happiness Project (by Gretchen Rubin) so much. Her whole undertaking was centered on the idea that she couldn’t really uproot her whole life (husband, two kids) to be happier, and that honestly she didn’t want to. Instead, it was about seeking happiness within the circumstances of her existing life, which feels much more doable for someone who is never getting to Bali on her own dime.

      I kind of loved how Rubin was so brutally honest about herself in that book, in a way that she does actually not come off very well to me. My favourite is the part where she wants to be kinder, but she seemingly doesn’t know how to be, so she decides being kind = being polite. She’s sort of adorably clueless, but to the point she sometimes seems like she has a part of her brain missing.

      I have a visceral reaction to Eat, Pray, Love. I watched it the first weekend I was home with my boy Levy. I was trying (unsuccessfully) to nurse him and he screamed on and off during the movie and I cried. Mr. Levy and I were so tired and it definitely devolved into sniping.

      Very little eating or loving, but a lot of praying not to kill the Mr. was going on.

      But anyway, good for her...I guess? Maybe she’s divorcing so she can get some sequel material. ;)
