Cruel Intentions came out 17 years ago?!

I haven’t felt this old since I found out Ralph Macchio is in his mid-50s...

I wanted to watch edgy movies as a kid and was allowed to with supervision from my Mom. First off was The Crying Game and second was KIDS. Cruel Intentions was like nothing.

That’s like the time I watched Pretty Woman with my dad. I wanted to crawl in a hole and die.

I don’t think we looked into the plot beforehand.

I went to see this movie with my older brother (ew) and his friend. I was underage and the ticket counter guy asked for ID and said I couldn’t go in without a parent. My brother lied and said he was my legal guardian after our parents died in a car crash. The ticket guy laughed and my brother got pissed for him laughing at our (fake) dead parents story and got the manager out and we got in for free.

    Worth it.

I would not want to see this movie with my sister.

I would rather lose my car, my only tangible asset, than feel that awkawrd.

Didn’t Cruel Intentions get a sequel a while back with different characters?

It was released as a sequel, but, I think it was actually a failed pilot for a TV series ...

Perhaps but I said the same thing about Hannibal on NBC. That show was so not made for network television. Sadly, not enough network television viewers watched the show.

Although really I picture it on The CW. A Gossip Girls for the next generation.

That’s kind of what I was thinking - CW or ABC Family (Freeform, whatever)

I’ll probably still give it a chance for SMG though.

I sorta remember there already being a sequel? A completely different cast, but I’m p sure it was a film called Cruel Intentions 2.

Yep, there was a Cruel Intentions 2 and, I believe, 3, and both were an awful delight that I watched on Starz in high school. The guy from Sanctuary was in it **adjusts nerd glasses**

There was. From what I remember, it was originally made from Manchester Prep-another television adaption of Cruel Intentions that was supposed to air on Fox. Apparently parents complained and the show was cancelled. So, the director repackaged it and released it as a sequel.

I loved this movie so much. The sequels were dreck, but I watched them anyway. They don’t need to do this. Let’s preserve some things please.

“It goes under the heading of embarrassment of riches,” he said. “There’s just so many shows that we have scheduled or ordered.”

More like NBC should be embarrassed at how they went from the #1 network to competing with CW for numbers.

All those rich new shows are lucky NBC just promised not to cancel new shows too fast. Because they’ve been doing that for years in a desperate effort to find their Lost or American Idol and ruined so many shows with good potential just because they couldn’t bother giving them a chance to grow an audience. Idiots.

They finally learned a lesson. Let’s see how long it lasts before they get desperate waiting for a good show to catch on.

NBC burned me too often with shows. I’m never forgiving you assholes for Journeyman. Kevin McKidd deserved that show to be a hit.

I was getting into Crowded and they canceled it. Never gave it a chance with about 10 episodes on a Sunday night. This is part of why ratings are low. No one wants to get into a show they cancel immediately so why watch at all?

Which is a point NBC kept ignoring for over ten years. How tone deaf can you be that you ignore it when fans complain, when mags point it out and when it clearly affects your ratings? But they just kept doing it.

It was the dumbest fall from the top I’ve ever seen.

I’m probably in the minority here because there always seems to be much love for the movie, but it’s terrible and a tv version would be so much worse. Please feel free to defend the film to me if you need to but if you haven’t seen it for a while, re-watch before defending it. It’s hot garbage.

I thought the fact that it's hot garbage was part of its appeal. Hot garbage, good soundtrack, and beautiful young people making out. Right?

Normally I’d say yes to all the hot garbage but I’m thinking it might be a combo of Ryan Phillipe’s smug face and the weirdly fucked up way they portray Selma Blair’s character that makes me pass on this particular garbagy mess.

Sorry, Cruel Intentions Makers, but you can’t call this the sequel. Some of us remain who recall Manchester Prep. You can’t vaporise all of us.

That was a prequel though. But they’d still have to account for Cruel Intentions 3.
