  I work at an ME’s office and when the yearly stats came out and it was something like 70+% of the homicides that year involved a firearm I actually said out loud in the meeting “it’s almost as if access to guns is a problem.”
  
  But yeah it’s totally not. Those people would be dead regardless, most definitely. /s
  
  Now that I think about it, next year I’ll ask them to figure how many women’s homicides were incidences of domestic violence.

  That sentiment drives me crazy, in part because it's often delivered by those who haven't been in that situation. When an abused woman "leaves", she's often been so marginalized and controlled by her partner that she has no money and nowhere to go (ever been to a women's shelter? Pretty fucking grim.). I personally knew two women who did take that step, managed to break away and start on some sort of normal life, and still ended up being murdered by husbands who could not "quit their claim". It's when abusive partners are forced to deal with the onus of the situation - whether by being sent to an "abuser's shelter" or receiving required counseling, particularly for first offenses - that this situation stands a chance of being rectified.

  These are desperate crimes. A violent psychopath whose life won’t be the same because the people they are used to abusing won’t be under their thumb.
  
  She tried to leave. She told the court he was violent. It didn’t matter, he had his guns and he killed his whole family.
  
  Every single one of these crimes should be reported and I’m glad Jez is doing this, it's fucking CONSTANT and we can't ignore it. We can't just look at mass killings as the problem. We have a gun problem.

If you do choose to call, only call from a phone your abuser will not have access to (the number will show up in a bill even if you delete it from your call log), in the presence of people you trust.
