If women ever join men on a major professional sports team, I think it will be baseball and I look forward to it.

There were a few decent college football kickers that were women

Maybe. I think Coppola is wrong, though, to say, “(Baseball is) the one major sport in which weight and strength come less into play.” With the specific exception of a knuckleballer, hockey goalies really need the least in terms of weight and strength. Knuckleballs are tough to master, though, and even tougher to live on exclusively in the major leagues. So a goalie seems at least 50/50 to break that barrier.

So a 17 year old girl who I assume is good enough to get a full ride at a good college for her skills is playing for a minor league team where she will never advance and will get a tiny salary instead? Seems like a poor life decision.

Very, very few players are good enough to get full rides to play college ball, and if her other options include signing with an independent league team, she’s not one of them.

Not even a minor league time. The Sonoma Stompers are NOT affiliated with MLB in any way; their league is independent. Perhaps they have a short season and she can still go to school?

Oh hey! That’s very cool! And I look forward to a comment section filled with League of their Own gifs.

But also, who even watches baseball anymore? If I ever go to a Minor League game in my hometown, it’s just because everyone else wants to. And then we drink a lot of beer and stumble out before the game is over to hit the bars.

And actually, it’s been several years now since I’ve done even that. But maybe I’m in the minority here?

I really hate baseball, but it’s usually a fun outing for me if the right people are involved. Beer and hotdogs, please!

My friends and I will probably do a Mets game sometime before summer is over, and Citifield has a meannnn pastrami sandwich.

It’s so slooooooooow. Maybe MTV and the internet ruined me, but I don’t have nearly enough attention span for baseball.

But, going to a game is literally the only time I enjoy cheap beer. But I learned (through a near miss) that when you have no intention of paying any attention to a game, you have to choose your seats carefully.

    That’s really cool!

I was going to say though, I lived in Sonoma County for three years and didn't realize Sonoma even had a baseball team. But I guess they were just founded in 2014.

They were founded in 2014 but I also read they replaced another Sonoma team there. So that one was around for awhile, too, I guess.

I hope you go to a game! I’d like to if I get out there during the season.

That’s not a minor league team.

      That’s an Independent League team.

Without an affiliation it’s just a stunt.

God bless the Washington Post but.... the Hawaiian Winter Baseball League is professional and Lee Anne Ketcham and Julie Croteau played in the League in the 90s outside of their time on the women’s professional baseball Colorado Silver Bullets Team.

“The Washington Post reports that there hasn’t been a professional co-ed baseball team since three women played in the Negro Leagues of the 1950s. “

Ila Borders played for the Duluth Dukes and the St. Paul Saints in the 1990's.
