Her? really? I mean good for her, I just... I just don’t get it. I would never see her in a cast list and be like “Oh yeah that is gonna be good” but then again her charms aren’t aimed at me I guess.

It’s odd to me that she’s become such a voice-over actress when, I mean... I didn’t think it was her voice that was selling tickets to her movies.

Wait, highest paid and highest grossing are different beasts.

That Samuel L Jackson is the second highest-grossing actor on average warms the cockles of my whatever, but you know he’s not compensated commensurately (or whatever word I’m grasping for).

He has been the bright, fleeting spot in many a fillum. Coming to America and Sea of Love come to mind. And he single-handedly made Sphere utterly, addictively re-watchable (for me, anyway; I know it’s panned).

LOL, all the comments on here shitting on Johansson.

A woman in major roles pulls in billions, and the response is, “But mehhhhh she’s so mehhhh.”

Frankly, I’ve found her plenty fun to watch. And she was brilliant as the voice in “Her.” She’s great in the Marvel films, too. She’s brought a lot of charisma to a role that could’ve otherwise been nothing but a boring skintight suit. I daresay she’s won the praise the hard way, given that Black Widow didn’t even have popularity on her side compared to Cap or even, hell, Thor.

She’s great, and I think she deserves her praise. So there.

ITA that she is a good actress. Also, she received amazing reviews for Her, Under the Skin, and most of her recent non-Marvel work (and her Marvel work, too), so it’s a little weird that so many people are like “her?” While I know everyone has different tastes, sometimes I wonder if some people let gossip blogs/celeb’s public persona subconsciously seep into how they view an actor’s performance. For example, people were so outraged when Miles Teller was up for one of the big roles in the Star Wars spin-off and were all like “he’s terrible”.....except he’s a pretty great actor (and critics love him) despite his abrasive public persona.

She really isn’t the one pulling in the billions though. Pretty much all of her top grossing movies are MCU movies where you could plug in any attractive white woman as Black Widow and it would have no impact on the box office. All of her best movies have grossed probably a total of $400 mil.

WTFH with all of the “Her?” comments? Yes: Her. She’s certainly not “less-good” an actress than the highest paid male actors. Perhaps she has great managment (or whatever the title is for the folks handling the financials)? Obviously, I have no clue how compensation is determined in that induatry; what I do know is that it was odd/surprising that the conversation immediately went to praising Samuel L. Jackson and kinda bitchy bullshit about Johannson.

I think it’s referring to a joke that crosses “Arrested Development” (which has a running joke that the dad keeps calling a forgettable son’s gf “her) with the movie “Her” (which Scar Jo starred in as a voice of an operating system).

A part of it might also be surprise, because she hasn't necessarily been noted for Oscar worthy performances. I like her, though, because she is charming.

It popped up a lot as well when the movie “Her” came out.

I haven’t seen much of what she’s done outside of the MCU, but she’s great as Black Widow. Who desperately needs her own movie!

Well if you’re the only lead female in almost every superhero film for the past ten years, this is going to happen. Has little to do with her though.

Wow. You just totally discredited her entire career.

Not at all. Do you really think the Capt America/Iron Man films have made billions because people are going to see her? I think she’s quite brilliant, and enjoy her work, but this ‘report’ is hardly accurate.

You have to remember, back then, successful women actors were paid in not being raped by the producers.

She wasn’t necessarily making that much. This is about how much money her movies bring in, not salary. Starring in superhero movies has a way of moving you up that list. With the exception of Eddie Murphy and Tom Hanks (both there due to animated films) all of the men above her have been in huge blockbuster action movies.

She’s the highest paid woman actor or she’s the woman with the highest box office revenue? The link goes to BOM’s list of box office gross by actor but doesn’t indicate what they were paid.

Mixing news about her being the highest grossing actress with a quote about the wage gap really makes this post a incoherent mess. Highest paid and highest grossing aren’t the same thing, Lauren Evans!
