How unlikely would it be for the IOC to pull the games from Rio this late in the game? Could they possibly go back to London?

I know a lot of athletes work super hard to go to the Games but.....really?

With less than two months to go, moving it couldn’t possibly work out. Cancelling to allow Brazil to save face makes sense though.

Are they really still building venues now? Why is everything going to hell this year? The U.K., the US election season, the olympics? :(

I’m not sure, but it seems like it’s a safety and health issue at this point. Probably better to just cut their losses and move on.

On the plus side, some marginal athletes may get a chance at Olympic glory if the real athletes decide to do the sane thing and just say “fuck it, I’m out.”

I’m actually beginning to think I may have a chance at a medal, if can learn the rudiments of an Olympic sport and start my own country in the next couple months.

The IOC is so hopping mad about all this bad news from Rio that they’re thinking about extracting higher bribes from the Brazilian government to let the games go on.

    That's what I heard anyway.

I’m looking forward to all the neat little local interest pieces about life in the favelas during the games.

In a book, this would be considered “ominous foreshadowing, albeit somewhat crude and heavy handed”. Why not have the sun turn gray or rancid-smelling black rain fall from the sky?

I’m really tempted to post something related to that case in Australia? where the guy just laid down and died on the beach with his finger pointing and a briefcase, but I don’t even want to Google the name, because it’s almost time for bed and that’s one of the few things that gives me the shivers.
So, just imagine that, if you know what I’m talking about.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, God’s decision to let Ballard guest author the Summer of 2016 has really shaken things up.

According to Jornal do Brasil, police say “it is not possible” to state the victim’s sex.

So, it was a Russian swimmer?

I know everyone said this before Sochi, but the odds of an ISIS attack at the games seem to be bowel-movingly high, no?

I mean, say what you will about the Russians, but Putin had the capability to make sure that everything that happened on TV looked fine (or at least not disastrous). It doesn’t feel like Brazil has the capability to do anything.

How fucking long is the world going to pretend these Games aren’t a health and environmental disaster?

I don’t even see how they can go on with this charade; DOZENS of nations are going to pull out because their athletes simply won’t risk a host of health crises Brazil is struggling with.

Health crisis are the least of it. I’d be more worried about the bridges collapsing, the cops and firefighters who are not getting paid, and other government fuck ups.
