... the Family Research Council accused AmeriCorps of acting as “political operatives” and dubbed them “AmeriCorpse,” saying the program was offering “support to the abortion industry.”

In April, the federal Office of the Inspector General reported that six AmeriCorps members provided emotional support and sometimes transportation to women seeking abortions.... AmeriCorps has also trained more than 7,300 members at health clinics nationwide

6 / 7,300 = .000821918 or, for the mathematically challenged, 2/3 of a zygote. But hey, let’s shitcan the entire thing because blah blah bloop bloop fuck you.

Just a reminder that we haven't won this war. Republicans are going to keep trying to make it has hard as possible for women to chose and that includes contraception. Vote in November and when you do remember this.

People need to show up to vote for their state legislatures, that is even more important than what happens at the federal level, because this is where all the TRAP laws are passed.

The Republicans currently control 70 of 99 state legislatures and 31 out of 50 state executives. They have far more power to pass anti-abortion laws than a single office holder like the President can neutralize with his own limited executive power.

This is where the real fight is and leftist voters don’t do a good job of showing up for these elections.

Right now at the federal level, we’re just trying to keep Trump from filling the vacant Supreme Court seat with someone hand-picked by a conservative think-tank for the purpose of overturning Roe V. Wade altogether.

Everything else would be more efficiently handled by showing up to vote in the state elections. The country won’t stop moving right until we stop stocking the state legislatures with right-wing nutjobs.

six AmeriCorps members offered emotional support to New York women during abortions, which is a violation of federal law.

What is legal is bringing them to a place that tries to convince them not to get an abortion through scare tactics and shaming. That’s perfectly fine.

They give HIV tests, educate asthma and diabetes patients, remind the elderly to take medicine, and perform a myriad of other tasks now at more than 200 thinly staffed health clinics in 17 states and Washington D.C.

We are clearly better off without such evil. As Jesus said "when someone is both poor and in bad health, make sure you screw them over extra good. And thus will you inherit the kingdom of heaven."

I have no words to express my outrage that a program is being shutdown because of people providing emotional and physical support for women getting abortions. This shouldn’t be happening.

My mother did the same thing in the 80s for teenage girls getting abortions. She helped them through that hard time and held their hand during it.

I've never given much thought to when I went with my BFF to her her abortion, sat in the waiting room, made jokes (she appreciated) when puking outside my car window after.. The clinic was in S. Florida and totally non-descript - this was in 2005 and I now shudder to think about how much worse it probably is now. I totally would volunteer to be an abortion doula. Ugh, so much rage.

I give the Republican’ts a little credit. When Clinton is elected, I am sure they will have invented a whole new scandal devoid of facts that they can milk for eight years.

Sometimes when these ‘scandals’ hit I just imagine whatever Selina Meyer is at the top of this dealing with her VEEPles. Someone's Amy and Dan have had a rough go of it lately.

It’s hypocrisy on a massive scale. The worst part is that most of these alleged pro-life politicians are the same people who are pro-capital punishment and anti-welfare. So poor people who can’t access abortion services at clinics either get back-alley abortions and die or are forced to raise unwanted children in less-than-ideal living conditions. It’s ludicrous.

The report did, however, conclude that the illegal behavior was “on an extremely limited scope,” and was discovered because the National Association of Community Health Centers, which oversaw the six members, self-reported that it had happened.

They are dealing with people who made a series of fake videos to try and frame PP for trafficking of baby parts, with a politician (who was high level enough that she was a potential candidate for President of the USA) claiming that the videos showed a living baby being murdered on screen to harvest its organs. Plus the shootings, the bombings, the stalking that goes on for many years and the countless death threats, the laws that force doctors to lie to their patients and tell them that abortion causes cancer, the crisis pregnancy centers that pretend to be abortion clinics to trick women into wasting time so they go over the legal limit for abortion. And so on and on and on.

Sorry, but if the guys at NACHC still honestly believed that volunteering any kind of info wouldn’t backfire horribly, they are goddamn morons.

I see people commenting about how stupid this is but tbh its genius for their campaign; More dead women (or at least women that have been weakened by their own unaided health struggles or that of family members who as women they are statistically more likely to support) means less members of the uterus owning population that could potentially seek abortions. Yay! The best way to stop abortion is to kill all women. Its science.
