As a lifetime hair remover, nothing bugs me more than being condescendingly lectured by other women that my partners are child molesters (“Oh my god! When it’s shaved, that’s how KIDS look! Why does he want to fuck a kid though?!”). Surprise: there are other secondary sexual characteristics besides hair that distinguish my vulva from that of a child! Hooray.

Also, I just like it better. You can. . . feel more, if you know what I mean.

Well, as someone who stopped shaving, I’m pretty sick of everyone telling me I’m unhygenic/gross/ugly/smelly and lazy because I have hair. I’m also tired of seeing dudes (who probably wouldn’t go down anyway) claim any hair on a woman is the reason they won’t eat her out.

I like my preference too. And personally, I feel more now that I’ve got hair back.

Yes!! I noticed I am much more sensitive when I am clean shaven. I manscaped my husband (neither of us trusts him with a sharp object near his man bits) and he noticed the same thing. My Gyn, however, told me to stop shaving because it was the cause of my (very painful) labial pimples. Apparently the hair has a function. Who knew? So now I just trim.

I think it’s sad that adolescent girls find hair unnatural and are shamed for it. I am PRO everyone caring for their hair as they see fit, without shame.

When I was pregnant, I could not believe how many women on pregnancy boards were stressed about their ability to groom their pubes before Ob/Gyn appointments. I found it so upsetting that amidst all of the joys/pains of pregnancy that would even register as a “concern”.

I had a pregnant gf who made her partner inspect her swimsuit crotch for stray pubes before a beach trip. This has always struck me as extremely humorous. I’m personally in the IDGAF camp, my doc has seen them waxed and un-waxed. Everything is fine!

Thank fucking god my husband doesn’t care, I would have a hard time not laughing while defending my flourishing pubes as a feminist statement.

That said, gosh, sorry, Dr. My Gynecologist. I had no idea I was meant to get waxed for your ease of access every time I went for a check-up.

I think the doctors probably just generally deal? I’m trying to imagine the circumstances under which a gynecologist would have someone up in the stirrups and say, “I’m sorry, but this vulva is much too hairy for me to inspect and treat. Please wax and come back.”

Its kinda disturbing that some women think pubic hair is dirty or unhygienic or whatever.

Also getting a wax before going to the gyno??? They know the gynecologist knows that hair naturally grows there right and aren’t bothered by it, right? That would be like apologizing to your general practice doctor for not shaving your pits or your legs.

Especially because the body grows hair there for hygienic reasons! Like armpit or head hair the hair traps and disperses bacteria and sweat. So remember kids, a hairy snatch is a clean snatch.

I’m not disturbed by hair, but I do notice that in both the lady bits and the arm pits, the more hair there is, the more prone I am to end-of-the-day funkiness. Bald bits tend to last longer in the freshness department.

No. Miss Kitty is neatly trimmed at all times. I do not enjoy the hairless look for myself or for my partner (fortunately, she and I are in total agreement on this).

The only exception was that one time in college when I got crabs...

I was surprised to find that I am totally in the tiniest minority on this one.

I have never tried a bare foof and whilst I might end up liking the sensation, I almost certainly would not have the energy to maintain it. I barely manage to shave my legs (and I do it in a resentful and slapdash fashion) so I will keep my nether foliage as it is - vaguely trimmed if I remember, thick and full as a sea captain’s beard when I invariably forget. Keep on keeping on with however you like your lady gardens, my girl-freres, and let’s agree not to have sex with anyone who tries to get dictatorial about our genital business.

I would like for us as a society to stop pathologising natural female body functions though. Yes, women’s bodies usually grow hair, often menstruate, and occasionally sweat but it is not gross or wrong or unhygienic or unfeminine or anything else bad.

I like to refer to mine as “lazy bush”. I keep that shit MOSTLY trimmed at the bikini line and the heft of it crew cut as best as I can/have time for. I’m in a long term committed relationship where both of us just kind of do our own thing and that’s cool. I’m a Young and I apparently am a weird 70s dumpster monster according to my friends for having hair, but I really don’t mind it. I tried waxing myself bc the cost of having it done is out of my budget and completely will never do that again. I find the bald aesthetic equally fine, I just see it as achievable only through a lot of expendable income I’d rather spend on makeup/booze/video games. No matter how sharp the razor I use, I find I still get ingrowns, and I guess I’d rather have hair than weird pussy pimples.

SO NOW THAT I’VE MASSIVELY OVERSHARED, how do you ladies get that shit tame without unsightly bumps?

I’m all for doing what you want with your body but I think the explanation given “for hygiene reasons” gives it all away right there, especially when I hear the same from super young girls. Why completely bare equals automatically hygienic is beyond me and I find it deeply troubling. For me it’s in the same category of mons pubis with no pubic hair on the cover of a major magazine is safe from the brown bag bottom shelf treatment but a mons pubis with pubic hair is automatically considered pornography. I mean, what?!

I get sweating sucks, etc., etc., but I have pubic hair and I manage to stay clean, dryish and scent free even though I work out pretty much every day (I also shower every day afterwards), and I live in sweltering southern California. I like the aesthetic of pubic hair because completely bare just looks unnatural on grown bodies and I love that my pubic hair traps my pheromones which drive my husband crazy. If your personal aesthetic is completely bare on men and women or any combination thereof that’s fine but a lot of times there seems to be a great deal of shame attached to the reasons behind why women in the particular make the decision to go bare and that is what bothers me not the actual doing it. Our genitalia is not dirty, it’s not smelly unless it’s sick, it’s not shameful because we bleed and get penetrated so, no, it’s not automatically cleaner physically and metaphorically just because you wax it all off.

So Im just offering some insight rather than trying to argue or anything, because I agree with what you said.

I dont think its less clean at all, I do find though that my own hair does trap scent and it makes me gag and makes me wake up in the middle of the night if I start sweating .Im not overweight and my diet is really good and Im told by others that I smell nice, so I dont think its that I have particularly rancid sweat or anything, but I have to trim or shave most of my body hair for my own sanity and comfort. Perhaps some of those women are the same?

I doubt its all of them though and its absolutely not cool to tell other people they are dirty or smell just because they do different stuff with their hair than what you yourself prefer.

I do notice a difference with my female friends depending on underarm preference for what thats worth (not alot, I hope) but they just smell like people and still better than almost every man.

Again, sorry if I somehow managed to offend! Your post just popped that stuff up in my head.

Does anybody have any recommendations on what type of hair removal is best for those prone to ingrowns? Shaving, waxing, Tendskin, exfoliating - I always get massive ingrowns. Any ideas?

I guess anything other than close trimming would cause ingrown hairs :(. My wax lady says to exfoliate every day (I used one of those glove thingies) to help hairs grow out cleanly. I opted to get laser hair removal - less hair and much fewer ingrown hairs now :)

Yes, 40% of women find it crucial to tidy up the vag before gyno appointments.

Back in the day, when I actually maintained my grooming habits, I always felt embarassed/self-conscious going to the gyno if I had recently *tidied up*. Would actually try and let it grow a bit if I had a set appointment.

I don’t know what that embarassment was about...I guess feeling a little more exposed? Completely irrational but there all the same.
