Not trying to be crass or ignorant right now, but what is the wait time on cocaine use and breastfeeding?

It would depend on how much she ingested (snorted, I assume) and how much she weighs, but a quick google says that for even a small amount, the wait time is at least 24 hours.

Hear me out on this; is this really worse than women that drink while breastfeeding? You drink, you wait, you pump and dump, you’re golden. She just misjudged her time frame in the extreme which is a shame. But if she’d done this with alcohol would it even be news? Also don’t fucking concern troll me, I’m not breastfeeding anything.

I’m going to say yes-in that it’s a narcotic. And drinking to excess isn’t advisable while breastfeeding either. People drinking responsibly are able to control their milk supply/safety but if someone was binge drinking on a regular basis while breast feeding-it would also be considered abusive and wildly irresponsible. From my experience, rarely are people using coke responsibly? I don’t have anything against people using coke-it’s their choice, but when youre pregnant or breast feeding? Ooof.

Depends how much you drink, the alcohol breastmilk content is equal to your blood alcohol content. So if your Bl/A content is 0.08 your breast milk is 0.08. Also it takes your body 30 minutes to absorb the booze so if you drink just one glass of wine while breastfeeding (and avoiding eye contact with any Mrs Lovejoy types) then wait the 3-4 hours until the next routine feed your baby will be completely unaffected.

You know, there’s all kinds of situations where a child is taken away from their parents for reasons that are questionable or seemingly unnecessary.

This is not one of those times. Seriously, get that baby out of there. These people need help.

Seriously. If you haven’t learned to keep pumped reserves on hand before doing douchey drugs with the first kid, the second one is going to be completely fucked. Smarten up.

No kidding. It makes me so furious, shit like this. There are people who would love to be able to have a baby of their own, who would love it and give it proper care, and seeing people like this treating their children with this level of carelessness and stupidity....it's such a terrible thing. Hopefully this baby ends up with people who can give it a safe and happy life.

I find myself wondering something I never would have guessed I’d be curious about: how long does it take for breast milk to be safe after snorting cocaine? Seems like it might be a good idea to pump and discard the milk a few times to make sure it’s all cleared out.

I know that with drinking “pump and dump” is a myth. You can’t just funnel the booze out. When it’s completely out of your system, it’s then safe to nurse.

Pumping and dumping does not work. Breast milk contains the same levels of whatever contaminant you’re trying to dump as the bloodstream. You’ll just make more with the same contaminant. The only way to clear it is time. That’s like saying you’ll keep breathing out boozey breaths to get rid of the booze in the exhalations until you pass the breathalyzer. Sure, as long as you wait until your BAC is lower, time wise.

Sooo... You go through the effort to breastfeed, but can’t stay off the coke while you’re doing it? Sometimes breastfeeding *isn’t* the healthiest choice for your baby.

One of our local newscasters (DC news, not national) wore a sleeveless dress last week and got literal rape threats on her Facebook page. This picture of them made me laugh out loud.

Cocaine is totally organic, too, right? Comes from plants? Probably better for the baby.

I think it’s “the womanly art of breastfeeding”. And I’m not commenting to correct you, but to say that I hate that title. Hate it, hate it, hate it.
